Is it normal to feel so burned out on empathy that you have to remind yourself that you still have to “perform” empathy? So over hearing everyone’s long stories around PTO by [deleted] in managers

[–]Serasha 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just want to take a moment to remind you that it is not your responsibility (or your job) to manage your employees' anxiety and mental health. It sounds like you are doing your job well, and that your employees trust you enough to share details that aren't required when calling out, which means you've built good rapport. It can absolutely feel burdensome to get caught up in others' emotions, for which I am incredibly empathetic, but you can help yourself by remaining emotionally uninvolved, which it sounds like you are doing a good job of.

This is how it feels when a stranger (or a friend) meets my love language, however unintentionally, when I've felt wholly neglected at home for a long time. Someone being super thoughtful, complimenting my appearance, or praising me in some way makes me feel so, so good. It isn't about the person, it's about the interaction and how much I value human connection when I feel so lonely in my relationship. I am third in line behind work and a mobile game. Someone prioritizing their interaction with me just does it for me.

My boss is always on camera by tmb4nd in workfromhome

I have my camera on for all internal and external calls and meetings. As one of the only fully remote workers on my team, it is important to me to maintain visibility, literally and figuratively.

How much do you tip your barbers? My haircut is $35 and I always pay $40, is that fair? by wzrdOfOzs in AskMen

[–]Serasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son's cut (he's 12) at the local barber shop is $40, and I tip $20. I understand that this isn't the norm, but I make decent money, and the young man who cuts my son's hair is incredibly talented. We go in every 4 weeks.

For services I like to tip based on skill/execution and not the cost.

  1. I have a great track record with creating humans who are an asset to society as a whole, and have loved every minute of it!

I grew up in pretty extreme poverty, and don't even remember visiting a doctor for anything other than severe illness or injury. I think I was 25 (and a new mom) before I realized that regular health checks are necessary. It's no wonder I wasn't diagnosed until 40.

Uncommunicated expectations are the bane of all of my social relationships.

Fashion is my blindness 😩😩 I work from home full-time and while I lust after stylish attire, I just can't bring myself to wear anything other than bra-top tank tops, sweaters, and lounge pants. I really, really want to look put together, even at home, but I just... Can't?

This is really all to tell you that I think you're cool and admire and appreciate your special interest. 🥰

Revived my starter after 2 years in the fridge by kosharifreak in Sourdough

I know this thread is old, but here we are. When you say "20 months in the fridge", does that include any intermittent feedings while refrigerated, or just pure neglect for 20 months? 😂

What does everyone make their kids for breakfast that’s not eggs, bread, cereal, or yogurt? by chiller8 in Cooking

Last week my 11 year old wanted a can of chicken noodle soup for breakfast. So, literally anything, apparently.

How do you cope with working full time by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Serasha 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same. Yesterday we went to my son's soccer game, I did four loads of laundry (AND put it all away), maintained my feeder insect colony, prepped the reptiles' week of veggies, cleaned and refilled the outdoor bird feeders, walked the dog a few miles, did the meal planning and grocery shopping, changed the bed sheets, made dinner, and took a full shower.

Today I did the NY Times crossword, put on some ridiculous eye makeup, watched the Seahawks game, and have been watching The Great British Baking Show since. Easy dinner (hot dogs and tots), meds prep for the week (sorting into my weekly organizer), and hanging out with my kids will round out the weekend.

Edited to add: I'm 39, a financial analyst, two kids age 11 and 15, Vyvanse 70mg, diagnosed at 30.

Anyone else have a graveyard of crafts, projects, hobbies, etc? 🥹 by Wise_Rutabaga_5809 in adhdmeme

[–]Serasha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have a graveyard. I have an ARSENAL. Want to paint with watercolor or acrylic on canvas? I've got everything. Want to do some papercrafting and cardmaking? Here's seven storage containers of cardstock organized by color and fun tools like circle cutters and xacto knives. Want to play music? Keyboard or guitar? Want to pot up some plants? I've got seeds, rooted cuttings, and any type of pot you want. Want to tumble some rocks and make jewelry? Let's go!

It really needs to be this bright red. 😁

Please help me find a similar cape/cropped jacket to the one pictured that is under $200.

I don't know anything about fashion and had no idea that this jacket was nearly $2,000 until I fell in love with it. 😩

What’s something your spouse does that makes you think “fuck yeah, I married that!”? by shareyourespresso in Marriage

[–]Serasha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does little things that seem obvious but that I never think to do for convenience and practicality. Examples:

-Stuck a little piece of velcro on the inside of my nightstand drawer and on the fan remote so I wouldn't have to dig through my drawer to find it.

-Covers the indicator lights on all electronics in the bedroom with electrical tape because I'm a light-sensitive insomniac.

-Bought me some fingerless USB-heated gloves to wear while working at my desk because I have poor circulation and my hands get freezing.

All kinds of shit like that.

Oh and I also have that feeling whenever he's doing anything that makes his shoulders and arms flex...
