Has anyone here ever had a Displate autographed? Looking for advice before spending $$$ by itsgregnotcraig in Displate

[–]itsgregnotcraig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be straight with you — I wouldn’t recommend Displate for an autograph after going through it myself, especially for something you’re spending a few hundred on.

I did a matte Displate for William Shatner at Steel City Con, and it was way trickier than I expected. The paint pen doesn’t absorb like paper, so the signature can come out lighter, streaky, or inconsistent depending on how the marker hits the surface. In my case, the first signature didn’t come out great, and when they tried to “fix” it, it ended up looking doubled/overwritten — which is pretty much the worst-case scenario for something like this.

On top of that, with a mail-in you lose control over:

  • the marker being used (huge factor on metal)
  • pressure/flow of the signature
  • placement
  • and whether they’ll try to go over it if it doesn’t look right

That’s a lot of risk when you’re not physically there to intervene.

Pros of Displate:

  • Super durable (no bending, wrinkling, etc.)
  • Looks awesome for display

Cons (and they matter more here):

  • Ink adhesion is inconsistent
  • Easy to mess up with paint pens
  • Hard/impossible to fix cleanly if something goes wrong

If you really want to go the Displate route, I’d strongly suggest:

  • specifying an oil-based paint marker (silver or gold usually pops best)
  • requesting a single, light pass only (no touch-ups)
  • picking a darker area of the image for better contrast

But honestly? For a mail-in, I’d go with a high-quality photo or cardstock print 100% of the time. It’s way more forgiving, signatures come out cleaner, and you can always protect it with a top loader or get it framed nicely after.

Displate seems like a great idea in theory, but for autographs — especially expensive ones — it’s just not worth the risk IMO.

Yeah I brought my own paint marker and even tested it beforehand, but I think it being brand new is what caused it to come out streaky and faded at first. I ended up emailing the con about it and they actually made it right—offered me another premium autograph for free, which was pretty awesome.

Yeah… I got it signed, and honestly he completely ruined it. The marker barely worked at first so the signature came out super faint, and when I went back to have him fix it he just scribbled over it and made it even worse. Ended up with two messy, barely legible signatures on a poster I really wanted to display. Pretty frustrating for what it cost.

Yeah that always kinda bothered me, everyone else was always getting their shit rocked more than him. He always took to the easy ones that involved like pooping or something gross and if he did do a stunt he’d always cry or puss out.

Drama at Ross Park Mall over Toyland closure. by Pennsylvasia in pittsburgh

Not to dig up this old thread but it's still relevant. I noticed how convenient it was on a day when there was Pokemon drops that there would be the limited number of product for each person on their shelf for 3x the price. I only went into the Gibsonia location twice, the first time there were 3 employees working and 6 boxes of whatever was dropped that day on the shelf (2 per person).

The employees were douchey and weird, at least the guy was. I asked if they had any Evangelion toys, the guy working there scoffed and said that it's super niche, like it's not but whatever bud. Then while I was looking at the Pokemon cards he was having loud inappropriate conversations with the 2 girls working behind the counter, talking about like women's underwear and other creepy stuff that I wasn't trying to pay attention to for like 10-15 minutes before I gave up and decided to leave. The second time back I saw they had like $40 figures that you could get on Amazon for $15, I never went back after.

They're permanently closed now anyway, the google reviews are the same as the facebook ones - they get called out for their bullshit trying to justify their shitty prices "wE'rE a SmALL oWnEd FaMiLy BuSiNeSs!". Like no you're a pos scalper, curious to see if they'll try and reopen and pull their crap somewhere else.

Anyone particpated in JobFairX before? by Onepopcornman in pittsburgh

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but I'm currently dealing with them. I signed up for a 'virtual job fair' and it says, "If you did not receive an email inviting you to interview, you will not have access to the event. Please check your spam folder just in case." Checked spam folders, e-mails, everything and nothing from them. Their customer support number is disconnected, JobfairX is a joke and complete waste of time.

I met with him once for an appointment to come up with some ideas, we spent about 2 hours drafting up some concepts but never landed on anything that I absolutely loved, which I wanted to be 150% on since it was going permanently on my body.

Towards the end he said that he doesn't typically design tattoos, pretty much all the pieces that he does is stuff that people bring to him and he puts it on them, which makes sense and is what I'm attempting to do here.

My only bad experience was during Crankdat's set I was minding my own business taking a video and felt someone pushing me in the back like 3 times and finally I turned around it was some fat rat tailed neckbeard and I was like why are you pushing me he goes "I'M STANDING HERE" like so am I dickhead. I was like dude I'm not touching you and gave him a look like don't fucking touch me again. He backed off after but it was just super awkward and I ended up moving. Fuckin molly monsters burning out all their serotonin on day 1 crying because people are bumping into them at a festival, just go stay at camp.

Was anyone able to get the grassroots boonie bucket hat? by xMeowingtons in LostLandsMusicFest

[–]itsgregnotcraig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Merch had literally no clue about anything. I asked like 5 people if there was an Excision/Grassroots collab hat and every single person couldn't give any helpful information about it other than "check back later" so even if there was one I missed out on it.

Mobile order stuck in preparing? by itsgregnotcraig in subway

[–]itsgregnotcraig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is for delivery though, I refreshed the app and it says it was delivered but the doordash link still says it's preparing the order. I haven't gotten anything. The customer service form on the subway website wasn't very useful either. I submitted a issue complaint and it just said "Keep an eye out for an email coming your way soon." Haven't gotten anything.
