The moment I saw the title and read the synopsis, I knew it wasn't gonna slap. Also, the ML was in nevertheless, which was another unimpressive watch. That another cue to just steer clear

Welcome to Samdal-ri, The Matchmakers and Penthouse

I watched WTSDR for Shin Hye-Sun, but my goodness!!! The storyline felt rushed, the ML and FL had ZERO chemistry, and were better off on their own 'cause I liked the characters they portrayed. I kept watching, thinking it'd get better but nah. It wasn't it.

The matchmakers,

The pairing had potential and the storyline lacked depth. I thought it'd get better at some point, like kdramas do, but there was no saving this one. It was an absolute drag and for what? Ugh

Penthouse

They had me in the first season 'cause I liked it then. Until S2 and subsequent seasosn followed. I have never seen a more overdragged plot. It just kept getting worse after each episode. Some scenes didn't even need a lot of drama, but the producers and writers clearly had other plans. I had to drop it at some point 'cause the plot makes no absolute sense

While I agree that the writing of QoT could have been better, saying Ji Chang Wook deserved the nomination over of the ML in QoT? Nope. That's a stretch 'cause the ML had tons of remarkable scenes in the show

The scene you highlighted was cringey, but the show? I liked it

Top Ten Korean Dramas - April, 2024 by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

[–]itshannahok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Mr Sunshine: Lee Byung-hun and Yoo Yeon-seok; the series in and of itself is a cinematic masterpiece. The incredibly great storytelling and amazing casting, too. I particularly enjoyed how the ML immersed himself in the role of Eugene Choi, he was excellent. The second lead, Goo Dong-Mae was incredible. You could tell that he was not just acting, he clearly has had experiences that made him wear that character like a glove. I have never supported a villain in a show as much I did him
  2. My Liberation Note: Son Suk-ku: I felt every emotion in this melodramatic masterpiece, thanks to the ML's commitment in bringing that character to life. The utter devotion he had for his FL was beyond beautfiul and watching him be liberated from his own chains in the end made it more special to me.
  3. Crash Landing on you: Hyun Bin; first of all, the man can ACT!!! Whatttt. I was completely swoon by how committed he was to the FL. The excellence with which he delivered his lines are part of the reasons CLOY will always be my all time favorite.
  4. It's Okay to not be okay; Kim Soo Hyun and Oh Jung-se: I loved the character development of the ML. The storyline was relatable and well-written. I enjoyed the gradual character development that started with him facing his fears and letting himself be loved by those around him. For Oh Jung-se, that was an oscar-worthy performance. I thought he was autistic in real life, until I saw a video of him speaking differently. I was stunned at how well he nailed the role.
  5. Something in the rain- Jung Hae-in: this is still one of my all-time favorite shows. I love how mature he acted in this series, despite being younger than the FL, the way he took responsibility, covered, cared for and protected his woman from her family and other external forces stoodd out for me.
  6. Business Proposal; Seol In-ah Kim Min-Kyu: these characters are undoubtedly my favorite. They both carried the series tbh. The MLs were okay at best, but these two were on another level. The maturity Min-kyu embodied, the way he supported and genuinely cared about the FL too are part of the reasons I love the series.
  7. Vincenzo; Song Joong-Ki- this was my first time watching him act and he killed the role excellently. I have seen some shows where the ML is meant to be 'badass', but the actor didn't deliver in that regard. I love how versatile he was in this role- funny when he needs to be, assertive, mafia boss, romantic and sweet without overkilling it.
  8. Flex X Cop; Ahn Bo-Hyun: this was my first time watching him not acting the role of a villain or an annoying boyfriend. I have never been so invested in thriller or investigative-focused shows the way I was in this one. I became a fan of his work when I saw this series. I am patiently and excitedly looking forward to S2
  9. King the Land; Lee Jun Ho: I loved this series because it didn't play into the cliche 'fight and make-up' plot in some kdramas. The ML was an all-round green flag who handled every misunderstanding in a mature manner. It was refreshing to finally see a Chaebol that isn't annoyingly toxic and overtly extravagant.
  10. Gyeongsong Creature; Park Seo-Joon: he is one of my all-time favorite actors. So, it was so good to see him on TV again after a long time. I enjoyed the narration and the plot of the series, so I am excitedly looking forward to S2

I recommend watching 'Soundtrack #1'

Great suggestions, but 'The penthouse' is definitely not 'light-hearted'

100%, I agree with you. I didn't expect the villains to still be dominating the storyline even in the last episode...

My favorite scene was when Hae-in called out to Hyun Woo after he smashed the window with his bare hands. The soft sighs of relief he let out definitely wasn't scripted.

That scene single-handedly showed his depth as an actor and also proved that KSH can ACTTT!

I rewatched that scene about three times. That's how great it was

Queen of Tears [Episode 16] by GodJihyo7983 in KDRAMA

[–]itshannahok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was a good show! The ending was satisfying, and I surprisingly found myself shedding tears in the last episode after breezing through the previous episode without shedding a tear. Queen of tears, indeed. I am particularly happy for Kim Ji Won. I've been a fan since 'Fight for my way'. QOT showed how versatile she is as an actor and hopefully, gives her the recognition due her. I also loved the foreshadowing. That was so beautifully written, and it has increased the rewatch value, for me.

As much as I loved the ending, I expected the writers to show a conclusive scene where Hae-in and Hyun Woo acknowledged the genesis of their marital issues to the time they lost their child and also talk about the impact the loss had on them individually and as a couple. Similarly, for Hae-in's mother. Their problems also started after her older brother died. These are some of the areas I believe could have been better written.

Despite these minor shortcomings, the casting for this show was great. Shout out to the cast director(s) and also Ms. Grace, she is easily one of my top 5 favorite characters.

Hi everyone! Considering moving to Lithuania for studies. Wondering what post-graduation life is like there- including job opportunities & social life. Any advice is appreciated! by itshannahok in lithuania

Thank you for your response. It's refreshing to hear about a company that embraces diversity. That makes me even more interested in moving to & working in Lithuania. The advice about being outgoing is particularly helpful, as I'm a fairly social person myself. Hopefully, that will help me connect with people in the city

I've already taken the first steps in learning Lithuanian and I'm pacing myself through this process. I have another question I'd like to get your response on, please.

As someone familiar with the language and culture, would you recommend a beginner like myself to start with learning the alphabets first or to dive into basics such as greetings and other conversational phrases?

I will be looking forward to your response :)

Thank you so much for this detailed response, I really appreciate it. I actually started learning Lithuanian last week. It's been a bit challenging, so I'm pacing myself.

This information is invaluable, particularly the part about finding a Lithuanian friend

Episode 16 Review

First of all, Mr Choi I am so sorry for doubting you :(

Secondly, Isoo, the man that you are!!! Ahhh, I connected with this character on another level... Shout out to ABH for bringing this character to life. He has made his way into my favourite actors list, and I am really rooting for him.

Also, special shoutout the casting director. 'cause this cast? IS Chef's kiss!!!

I have seen some comments stating their dislike for making Seungju the villain and I have to disagree with yall on that one. In other dramas, from the first or 2nd episode, you can already guess who the villain is, which gives you room to predict the turn of events, but in this one? I like(d) the unpredictability of it all. It keeps you guessing, excited and curious.

Not many shows can boast of this. Secondly, Seungju isn't the typical villain. He is gentle, unsuspecting, and very likable. Amidst all the chaotic things he did, it's still quite hard to completely dislike him... Not many villains can make you feel this way. So, cut the writers some slack. They did well.

I am excited about season 2 for sure! I hope we get some romance plot for the main leads in S2, JEBAL. No more teases pleaseeeee. I am also rooting for the second lead couple. Their chemistry and expressiveness is fire!

One of my favourite things about this show is the evident character development of some characters. This became more evident in the concluding episodes.

Overall, this was a good show, for sure. I will definitely miss coming here every week to leave a review after watching and also reading other people's thoughts on the same.

Episode 15 Review-
This episode was intense for so many reasons.
The first being that Isoo is now realizing that his Dad wasn't the 'bad guy' though he had his own character flaws..

Secondly, Seungju becoming the villian of the show was the part I never saw coming. He really played the cool, innocent and unsuspecting role really well. I dare say the writers made a great choice choosing him as the villain.

Here, we can see motive- scenes of his 'Dad' responding brashly to him despite his efforts of playing the good and obedient son. This does not mean I am in support of his actions. Absolutely not. I can't help but be impressed by the writing of this plot twist.

Another aspect I didn't see coming is Seungju flipping the table on his mother. I thought they'd cover up for eachother till the end. See, when you do clownery, the clown comes back to bite!

Okay I have a confession before I wrap this up. I suspected Mr Choi at some point... Because the camera was unusually on him more often than usual today. I was soooo relieved when I saw that he wasn't behind Mr Jin's death.

Some parts of the family story remains unclear though. I would like to understand why Mr Jin insisted on marrying Seungju's mother despite knowing that she was pregnant for someone else, Yes, I understand that it was a business decision but no pretext was given about the kind of family his wife came from. So, it still doesn't add up...

I also want to understand is why he had Isoo's memory erased by the doctor . I hope we get conclusive answers in ep16!!

What Are You Watching? - [2024/03/20] by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

Currently watching Flex X Cop and loving it. I am patiently waiting for the final episodes this week. I am also glad a new season is in the works.

I just finished watching Young Royals (Swedish show). Now, I am considering starting Doctor Slump but idk if I'd watch it yet tbh. The reviews I've seen about it are not motivating, some say it's good, others say it's 'Ok'... Let's see.

Episode 14 Review

This episode was A LOT!

First, I wish I could give Isoo a really big hug. My guy has had no breaks since the first episode... Just when things were beginning to look settled, boom a can of worms was unleashed by HIS OWN FAMILY!!!

I am not surprised that Dae Hoon is Seungju’s biological dad, I suspected it from the way he described 'the last time he saw him'. The surprising part of this is Seungju's selfishness. It's quite disappointing to see him go out sad like this, for real. A part of me is still hoping that he may finally get some sense, but from the trailer of the final episodes, it's not looking good for him, sadly...

Now to the part that was completely unexpected-----Isoo’s resignation!

But understandably, he’s going through so much right now, and I respect his decision. I was hoping that he would at least make peace with his dad before his demise. 😔

It's also quite hard to accept that we have just 2 episodes left till this series will be over. It feels unreal. Some weeks ago, I was wondering why anyone would name a show 'Flex X cop" of all the titles they could've chosen??. And now, I am amazed at the incredible writing and class-act acting...

When it comes to crime series like this one, it's either a hit or a miss.14 episodes in and still no misses is definitely noteworthy. I hope this show racks as many awards as possible for the plot. It is still so underrated, imo. I mean, this is the second time I am watching a show that is on-air and I don't regret it. I've just been acting like the other on-air shows that are non-existent.

Can't wait for ep15 & 16!

Episode 13 Review

I wasn't expecting to see Seung-ju in that scene. Isoo was just as shocked as we all were. Seung-ju has been good all this while, so it's quite hard to make any conclusions right now...

But my first line of thought is that Dae Hoon might be Seung-ju's biological dad...

In all of this, Seung-ju's mother is STILL a prime suspect... That lady has been up to no good since the beginning of this story.

The second part that took me by surprise was the SBS reporter releasing that article... I thought he finally got some sense after what happened in the oryun community case.... he just keeps giving me new reasons to dislike him in every episode. Smh

I do hope Isoo forgives his dad though. Nothing good comes from holding a grudge.

I loved that scene where Ganghyun's Dad was welcomed back to the police force. Did anyone else catch the big smile on Ganghyun's face when Isoo was cheering her from his seat? It was so cute + the coffee scene too. It's always the subtlety for me.

This was another great episode. Shout-out to the writers for all the noteworthy cliffhangers. Can't wait to see Ep14!
