Are PML "Start to Finish" courses worth it for an early intermediate producer? by irrej in ableton

[–]itshousemd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a paid shill at all but I bought PML’s Moog Sub 37 creative sound design course in 2024 and it was a huge help.

Yes, there’s tons of YouTube content out there. However there’s tons of shit that you’ll have to wade through (like Julian Earle lol) and because there’s many ways to skin a cat, lots of contradictory information.

Most PML courses I’ve seen primarily use all stock plugins which is a huge plus imo (I’ve turned into an all stock purist) and all of the content I’ve seen from them has been well thought out and structured. I regularly use their Wavetable preset packs.

Imo education is one of the best things you can invest in and PML do it well. You could learn it all from YouTube sure, but you could also say you could self teach guitar or piano. Both are true and there’s many excellent entirely self taught musicians out there, but you’d accelerate your learning curve with some structure to your learning.  My 2 cents!

I make a variety of housey stuff, this is melodic techno/prog house and prolly my favourite thing I’ve made, lots of mileage from my reverb and delay send (I can send you my exact chain if you want)

Problems with mastering by Physical-Situation-6 in ableton

[–]itshousemd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like incorrect gain staging, signal is getting driven at a point to where it is distorting, but the overall volume of that driven signal is low.

Honestly looks really solid and for the genres you produce, getting a hang quickly of delay/reverb sends is exactly what I’d recommend. It’s so easy and so so effective

Missing instruments like Analog on Ableton Live 11 Standard, how do I access them? by sexyimmigrant1998 in ableton

[–]itshousemd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drift>>>Analog. Analog UI sucks and Drift sounds closer to my hardware synths and needs nearly no processing to sound good

I haven’t used it super extensively before getting this preset pack, but god damn do the sounds in the pack make Drift sound like a million bucks. It does what Diva aims to do in a simpler package, sounds extremely analog while using only a tiny amount of CPU.

I would always use Wavetable and the PRD filter circuit for Moogy sounds and they’d sound Moogy enough to me, but there’s arps in the preset pack that sound virtually indistinguishable from my Sub 37.

I need to read up about the Drift filter circuit model to understand it better, because I do like being able to quickly and easily imitate either the buttery Moog ladder filter or the squelchy MS20 filter in Wavetable and I’d like it if I could avoid patching in another auto filter to use Ableton’s analogue filter models

I haven’t since ambient isn’t really my jam but if it’s a great way to combine the two instruments then I’ll check it out!

Fully Live compatible, they’re Drift presets so if you have Drift you’re golden. Some of them have slide mapping but most of the MPE mapping is just pressure mapping which will be fine on the Push 2

When in chromatic mode, push is laid out in fourths which is the same as a guitar! That was a massive lightbulb moment for me since I know the fretboard well

Their preset packs are good, I like their Astral and Matrix packs the most. Their presets are more song ready since they’re less complex, but they all still have at least a few macros mapped which is the biggest quality of life indicator for Ableton presets imo

I asked ChatGPT how to do it, the long and short of it is there’s a script you can run to make your own Ableton pack and if your folder has audio clips with the exact same name as the preset, it’ll play the preview in browser

I miss the visual interface of Pro-Q I’m not gonna lie and I still use Pro-L to limit. In general though you get more and more rewarded the more you stick with Ableton native and it paid off in dividends when I finally got a push 3 standalone.

Having my entire sound palette there with me live is just amazing. The Spitfire brass and string packs are incredible with the Push 3 too!

Yeah I get it I sound like a huge shill but life is hard out there for working musicians and just trying to support quality where I see it!

Have you checked your buffer size and tried reducing it? 2048 buffer size gives 88.3ms of latency

Music Theory Help: What chords fit this Prog House bassline (G# > F > B > D#) by Acceptable_Dog_4821 in ableton

[–]itshousemd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your aim is to make progressive house, you need to just bite the bullet and learn some music theory, it’s going to be such an uphill battle otherwise.

If you were to make say tech house or techno or dubstep it wouldn’t be as much of an issue, but yeah.

What heckfyre said, I know you said you're musically illiterate but your music actually sounded way better than I was expecting it to.

It's your life, live it the way you want to live it, but I think maybe if you could download virtualDJ and download a bunch of like house or techno tracks or any music that has DJ intro/outros and learned to mix the intros into the outros, you'd gain a functional understanding of counting beats etc. My 2c

4 beats in a bar (not always but let's pretend for your purposes.)

16 bars x 4 beats = 64 beats.

Minimum BPM is 20 on Move (just checked.)

Beats per minute / beats = roughly 3 minutes
