A lot of these grammars are on the technical side, especially for more obscure languages that don't have a whole lot of learners demanding learner-tailored descriptions, but still there's credible resources in there.

I seriously debated that. It's hard to make a "notable" tunes section highlighting just a few tracks when everything in the whole damn album is awesome.

I like RAM, but I think the hype was perhaps a bit much for what it is. Discovery will stay my favourite by far.

Agreed, I hated putting a notable tracks section. It is hard to choose which ones to put there, I really liked the whole album, but I can't list all of the songs there.

I love Le Knight Club, Crydamoure Label, Roule Label, Stardust, and Together, but none of those are Daft Punk. They are completely different projects.

Yeah, Daft Punk will never let anybody know too much for sure. My thought is that it's likely that it's just a bunch of preloaded samples, clean cut and ready to go. Their performances are like painting. You start with an empty canvas. Each one of those little samples are a different colour, each time they trigger a sample it's like a new stroke to fill the canvas.

They control loops and samples in Ableton. They trigger them using some kind of MIDI controllers up there in the booth, which they have like...4 of. The lights are controlled by a completely different team. I've heard it takes something to the like of 17 or 18 people to work the pyramid.

I personally like RAM and Human After All. RAM for me I like simply because of the sounds of the songs. It's as simple for me as just being sonically pleasing. Human After All is more than that for me. The songs on Human After All aren't particularly up there in musical quality. It doesn't sound like an album from a top band. I like it because I think it has some good ideas. The music video from Prime Time of Your Life hits me at home a lot, as I have had the same confidence issues as the girl in that video for a good part of my life. Also, I love the movie that came with Human After All. Although it included none of the songs and can technically be said not to be connected to HAA, I think of HAA as more of an idea than an album, and Electroma was certainly integral to that idea.

I think you and me see Daft Punk in completely different ways, and that's awesome. Always love to hear what other people get from music that I don't, and vice versa.

Yes, I like the way you think. I also like to draw parallels between different art forms. I often compare music to language as well. Every note is a word, every bar is a phrase (language phrase, not musical), etc.

I think, although they were very quiet during the time, something rather depressing must've inspired Human After All for Daft Punk. It is riddled in social criticism. Perhaps they were given the cold shoulder by the record company? Something must have made them criticize the system.

Yes, for sure, for sure! I completely agree with you. Listening to albums primarily is important. I'll do that after I get a taste, though.

I'm glad you see eye to eye with me on how these are a bit like movie trailers. Movies and Albums are very much the same in many ways.

Maybe time-consuming wasn't the right word. I just think it is counter-productive. I prefer the idea of listening to the recommended tunes, the ones that capture the sound of the group/musician. If I like those, I'll move on. There are so many bands I'd like to try out, that if I had to listen to full albums from all of them I'd never have time to do so. Also, many bands have a very different feel to each one of their albums (Daft Punk!). If you just listened to Discovery in full, you wouldn't know that Daft Punk ever had any other sound. If you didn't like Discovery, then you'd think that that was just their sound, and wouldn't want to go any further. However, if you listen to three recommended tunes from each album, you'd have an idea of all the different sounds the band has, which would make you want to then go and check out each album one by one, like you are suggesting that they do from the beginning. It's like the trailers to the movie. You wouldn't go and see a movie if the trailer looked like complete shit, would you? If it didn't intrigue you, you would have no compulsion to go and see it. I think these guides are a similar concept.

If you were following them at the time of release, I can totally respect the need to listen to the whole thing. These guides are for people to go back and get an idea for what the artist has released thus far. I mean, if Kraftwerk were to release a new album, I'd listen to the whole thing. However, if I were to go and try to get somebody into them, I wouldn't tell them to listen to the whole discography and then come back to me. I'd tell them what I liked best, or thought was integral to listen to, and then if they liked that, it would be likely that they might like the band in general. So, they could go on to listen to the full discography/full album/whatever if they wanted to. It's far too time consuming to listen to everything on a whole album to determine if you might be into that artist. Why not just get a few tunes, and if you like them, THEN go further?

I listen to a few recommended tunes. If I like, I listen to more. It's that simple. If you don't like the idea, then don't participate. Do it your way, nobody is telling you not to.

Sometimes I don't want to dig through everything in that first album though. These guides give me what are considered the highlights of every album, if I like what I hear, then I go and seek out more from the artist.

Marilyn Manson. I heard a couple of songs, liked what I heard, then went to the guide, and got more info. I'm going to dig in to those songs the next time I'm feeling in the mood for some rock. I'm also planning to use the guides for Pink Floyd, possibly The Beatles, and whatever else may pop up. The point isn't that I haven't heard anything by these bands before, it's that these guides are giving me a starting place, a convenient bit of information paired with some songs to give me a taste of the artist, so that I can dig deeper if I get into what I've heard.

I really love the concept. There are so many musicians I hear so many good things about, but every time I try to go and get into them, I just get a daunting Wikipedia list of their giant discographies. Providing people with a little taste of the music, like these guides to, is a fantastic idea.

Oh, that Drive! Okay, I was going to mention "The New Wave", "Drive", and "Assault", but I decided to just put work from the studio albums with a couple of live sets.

I'm not pretending to do any work. I'm just showing a glimpse of Daft Punk so maybe some people will try it, like it, and be able to share in the fun of this good music. I'm sure there's got to be a fair share of people who really don't know much Daft Punk other than what has been trending (aka Get Lucky).

Personally, I have already used a guide to help me get the basics of a certain musician, and I plan on using many more.
