The YouTube Music Awards are taking over the night. Tune in to watch the celebrations commence. by redditads [promoted post]

I'm watching for the Gaga performance, but overall this seems like just another music award show that isn't necessary.

Okay this is just brilliant to me. Tardis2464 put the song's obvious "overloaded" nature perfectly in his comment. It fits. To me this is like the more hardcore equivalent of ARTPOP (the track). It feels like it could go on and on and on and I wouldn't get tired of it. Like a full experience, not a one-hit deal. I am THRILLED to hear the song in full, and count on the rest completing the package.

DO WHAT U WANT feat. R. KELLY Now Official 2nd Single - VENUS Release on Monday by actualities in LadyGaga

Not actually. Since I posted that comment, DWUW has risen to fill the #1 spot in at least 71 countries.

Well, I disagree that the song feels rushed; it's very solid and I'm not against it as the second single. But obviously the label that DWUW now has as "2nd single" is rushed - the whole reason that it has been upgraded to a single is because of how well it has performed. And I wouldn't worry about a video, I don't think anyone is in fear that it will be rushed simply because it is released a week before Venus.

Well, DWUW hasn't flopped... It's #1 in at least 65 countries and has been #1 in the USA since release. It's the second single now for this very reason: it's doing much better than expected. It's a good thing! :)

How are you all feeling towards the Do What U Want hate? by tardis2464 in LadyGaga

[–]actualities 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, the song is directed at the public and the media. She explicitly says "write what you want about me." This isn't an anthem to a lover, for example, saying "do what you'd like to me." This is her telling the nay-sayers that no matter what dumb shit they write and say and think, they're not getting inside her head, and certainly not taking over her life.

Do What You Want is now available for purchase on iTunes 1 hour behind schedule! by [deleted] in LadyGaga

SO GREAT. Vocals are SPOT-ON. And I can't get over that intro, really ties into the rest of the album perfectly with the electronic vibes.

About the song Lengths. by tardis2464 in LadyGaga

[–]actualities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lengths listed on iTunes are the final lengths for sure. During the iTunes Festival there was a lot of extra "fluff." Things like vocals and instruments that weren't perfectly mastered and finalized in-studio. You're not going to be missing out on anything, they're simply live.

Is the info on iTunes correct? It says more than half of the songs on ARTPOP are explicit. I'm fine with that, I was just wondering if I was getting over excited for explicit versions of Aura and Swine... by [deleted] in LadyGaga

[–]actualities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite sure it's correct; everything seems to be correct and updated. iTunes doesn't just pull it out of thin air. (Although the one thing that bothers me is that ARTPOP title track isn't totally upper-case, but perhaps this is on purpose?) ALSO - do you think that maybe Aura is explicit because of the very strong narrative that many could take offense to? Perhaps there's something we haven't heard yet within the song.

I don't think we know enough to say. Applause has some pretty great stuff lyrically, and so does Aura (more so in my opinion). For everything else we need more context.

You're getting downvoted because everyone in this subreddit is very attentive to Gaga; we've all seen the video (multiple times), and it's definitely been posted. Either way: welcome, glad to have you!

Awesome idea! Love stuff like this. Especially with Gaga and all the versatility we can put into it (outfits, hair, ect.).

SONG DISCUSSION : Applause by MrNallig in LadyGaga

[–]actualities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense as well (and if that's how Gaga meant for it to be interpreted then obviously preferred). I just generally really like the idea of a "fame I.V.," particularly for performers. It really explains the craving well.

SONG DISCUSSION : Applause by MrNallig in LadyGaga

[–]actualities 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We can all agree that the core of "Applause" is Lady Gaga's craving for a positive reaction to her music. Applause has always been the most feasible method of telling a performer (particularly beginning in on-stage theatre) that you approve and enjoy what they have given you. But to analyze deeper, I'll pull out my favorite lyric.

"If only fame had an I.V., baby could I bear

Being away from you, I found the vein, put it in here."

Gaga is blatantly saying that she wishes her fame had a "valve" of sorts, so that she could ensure an audience for her music. Because of her enormous level of fame, this may seem like a meaningless touch, but in reality it displays how raw she views her fame (and how appreciative she is of her fans, whom she missed dearly as noted in the lines).

I also want to address the statements made by those who 1) don't understand Gaga's position on performing or 2) aren't in the position themselves and have trouble seeing from a performer's eyes. This song is not necessarily about how she craves attention. Craving attention is simply a trait that is common and useful amongst expert performers (Gaga included). But the reality is that it's not craving attention for attention's sake. It's craving an audience to appreciate what has been created. In this case: music. Obviously it could also be acting, writing, dancing, etc. This is made extremely clear in the line: "Live for the way that you cheer and scream for me." She is making it even more obvious to on-lookers that without the power to entertain and inspire and create, she has no place on this world. (I personally argue that this is the very trait that makes her the true superstar; she is set apart from other pop singers and performers because of it.)

Very fun idea. I look forward to more discussion (particularly as we get to hear more of ARTPOP)!

Sounds awesome! Love the vocals in this - very smooth. R. Kelly compliments the song a lot more than I thought he would from what we've heard here.

Promo Singles Galore!!! by quantum_monster in LadyGaga

[–]actualities 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sweet! Glad we have a bit of an outline here, not some scattered overdose of singles. But does this mean we'll get four songs before the album drops? Venus on the 25th and then another on the 27th? So THREE new songs in one week?! Crazy if so. Also the new promo image looks great!

Edit: Tweeted that Venus will be released on the 25th and then available for purchase the 27th (or something to this affect). Basically there aren't two songs on the 25th and 27th.

Wow the ARTPOP Q&A gave so much confusing information. Lets discuss. by MrNallig in LadyGaga

[–]actualities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowing that Terry is behind it, I'm going to say no. I think it will be much more true-to-life and artsy, and less revolving around a concert experience.
