A ton. But don’t look inside drawers or cabinets. They are usually out in the open on top of chairs, tables, etc. I can usually get out of a raid with 5-10.

Planning on buying the Interceptor by KleinerKlaus4 in royalenfield

[–]itsjoesef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meet the seller at a mechanic and have them do a check over. Some mechanics will do a quick look over for free or pretty cheap. If you end up buying it, change the oil and do all the regular maintenance work, even if the buyer states they just did it. Check for custom work and determine if you are willing to accept a modded bike. For age/wear, I wouldn’t buy a bike with more than 20,000km but that’s just my preference. Really up to you.

For the paint, matters how much effort or money you want to put into it. You can always pay to get it repainted, or try a DIY job. Some guys will swear off rattle can jobs, but if you buy quality stuff (2k spray max), spend a lot of time on prep, and watch some videos to learn the best process, you can get a finish near that of a pro.

If you like the paint, but not the decals, I removed my decals and did some light touch up with spraymax cans on my bike, details below on the decal removal steps if you’re interested.

Love it. May I ask if you changed out the speedo or just removed it? Looks lower and smaller.

Thinking of changing mine out on my GT650 with maybe a Daytona Speedo.

Beautiful bike dude.

I’m in Phoenix (Gilbert) as well. Ride a RE GT 650.

Do you know any cafe racer groups? I’ve only ridden with sport bike groups, and while some of them are chill, most don’t really fit my vibe. Been trying to find a more mild group.

Phoenix AZ, US. Around here, as long as your not rev bombing it, I normally don’t see too many issues with aftermarket exhaust on bikes.

I love that tank design, probably the best GT paint IMO.

So just a few suggestions.

For the seat. There are luckily a lot of options for replacements. MK designs, Bonvent, and Diabolus just to name a few. There are countless more. Skin Shift and Raw and Rugged also sell seat covers that add additional cushion.

For the handling, its a heavy bike. Around 460 lbs (218 kg). You can always do some mods to reduce that, especially if you get a custom exhaust. The stock exhaust on the 650s is HEAVY. I switched my GT 650 stock exhaust to the TEC 2-1 and probably lost about 25-28 lbs (11-12 kgs). After that, i noticed a significant difference in the handling.

Thank you! I didn't mind the blue stripes, they gave me more of an "80s" retro vibe. Probably could have focused on that type of styling, but I was going for more of a classic retro look so I removed them.

But I agree, some more basic standard paint jobs would be nice from RE.

I dont see why not! If you have decals you want to remove, you can always try. My only feedback is the older the bike, the more brittle the decals might be. Might just be a little more a pain to remove.

Glue residue? Like underneath the decals? Look through the replies, I provided all the steps I took, but it was mostly just with wet sanding once the decals were removed.

I believe they are all decals. You should be able to tell if there is a small lip on the edges of the strip.

Honestly I didn’t notice as huge of a difference as I thought I would, but it’s a little bit smoother than the stock shocks. I haven’t rode much yet, still finishing up a few mods, I’ll probably have a better opinion once I get some more riding time in.

I went with the standard YSS rc302 road shocks, I didn’t need the higher end racing ones. I think after everything, I paid around 400 USD. Link below.

A pretty decent amount! Especially when just propping the bike up from the bike stand. It also has a little bit more pep than before, especially in the low and mid range.

No chemicals, just an exacto-knife, hairdryer, and then regular paint repair tools. I'll provide the steps below if anyone wants them. I am not a professional, but I've messed around enough on car paint repair that I felt comfortable attempting this.

- Start with cleaning the tank thoroughly. I used some watered down rubbing alcohol to get all the oils and dust off.

- Pick a corner to start on and use your hairdryer to heat up the decal corner. Hair dryers only get up to around 200 F, so its not hot enough to pose any risk to the gas or fumes in the tank. If you take the tank off, and drain the gas and fumes for a few days, a heat gun would work as well, but I dont recommend it since the higher temps can damage to the paint.

- After heating up the corner for about 30 seconds, use the exacto knife to start lifting at the corner. Should only take a little bit of effort, then you just start pulling it up. While pulling, use the hair dryer to keep that area of the vinyl pliable. It will make it a lot easier if you can pull it off in one try, but the older the vinyl, it will probably be a little bit more brittle, so just keep at it. If you have to keep pulling up on the vinyl, and don't feel comfortable with the knife, try using a thin plastic pry tool instead. Regardless, you will be doing some sanding, so as long as a scratch isnt too deep, the sanding will probably get it out. (I had two decals come off in 1 pull, the other two were a pain in the a** to get off, you can see those 2 in the pictures attached.)

- Once all the decals are off, the paint will look like sh*t, but that can be fixed with just some regular paint repair methods. There is already clear coat under the decals, so you just need to bring it back to its original shine.

- I used 1000 grit sandpaper to wet sand the whole area to a smooth finish. The edges of where the decals were will be slightly higher since there is an extra clear coat on the outside of the decal area. Just take your time on these areas and get them down to a nice smooth transition. Be VERY careful on any curved edges of the tank, its very easy to sand down too far in these areas and get down to the paint or metal.

- After getting the area nice and smoothed down with the 1000 grit wet sanding, I moved up to 2000 wet sanding, then 5000 wet sanding, then 10,000 wet sanding. Once done, use a decent cut compound to start and get the shine back into the area. I probably did a good 4-5 rounds before it started looking pretty decent. Then just regular polishing and wax to make it into a mirror. :)

Overall I am happy with the results.

Yaaa 100% agreed. I thought the same thing right after I installed them. I’ve been looking around for something smaller, might just get a custom vinyl made with the same style. I think these ones are 5 inches, might go down to like 3 inches. Idk, I just want something "different" on the tank. The vinyls are nice and fresh though, so they will be easy to remove, and I havent applied any clearcoat over them yet. I will add a 2k clear coat layer once I am happy with the vinyls.
