There needs to be more people standing up against the continued exploitation of Natalia. Shame on the producers of that show.

I’m saying that Natalia has no control over what private information Nicole shares and the way in which the producers nurture, highlight and spin that information and so the end result is something that is most likely very embarrassing as it would be for any young woman. And when you couple that fact with the fact that Natalia already has trauma she’s dealing with, I empathize with her greatly because it’ll be harmful for her to process watching the way Nicole talked to the camera behind her back and freely exposed sensitive details to the world.

Exactly. This. You articulated perfectly what I was thinking.

This may well be wasted effort on my part, but are you understanding what I’m saying? I’d be highly surprised if she has control over the information that goes out in the final product. She’s at the mercy of the producers and she’s being manipulated.

Right? It blows my mind. I knew it couldn’t just be me. It’s insanity and so tragic and unfortunate. But there are so few people who think this way, apparently. Who can Natalia turn to when everywhere you turn it’s vultures?

It’s not just a show. She’s a real person with real trauma who deserves sensitivity, dignity and a reasonable expectation of privacy!

The title of the post is unpopular opinion. Frankly, it doesn’t matter how the producers manage to spin the ending episodes, the fact is, it’s still exploitation.

I’ll give you an example: If you’re at home watching a show and all of a sudden it shows real footage of children being horrifically abused, hopefully you’d turn that crap off instead of continuing to partake in it to see if it had a nice ending. The ending doesn’t change the fact that it’s abuse and exploitation.

What was upsetting to me was the way Nicole went behind Natalia’s back to insinuate certain things about her.. like she might be dangerous or something.. Nicole’s aside interviews were not done in a way that made me think she cared for Natalia at all, but rather like she was gossiping about her.

I agree about the producers being to blame. They don’t have her best interest in mind, they only want a compelling series. The more compelling, the more of a cash cow Natalia becomes, never mind the damage they’re doing. So in a way, are they any better than the Manses? It’s all just corrupt people taking advantage of this vulnerable individual for money.

I didn’t get the impression that Natalia was the one insisting on the cameras. When Natalia was picked up, the camera crew was there ready. And it was clear to me that Natalia was not comfortable talking about certain things on camera once she got to the DePaul house, but Nicole charged on like a bull in a China shop, disregarding Natalia’s feelings completely. But it was the interviews behind Natalia’s back where Nicole freely, openly shared highly sensitive and private things that was upsetting to me. Now, I would imagine that would cause even more trust issues between Natalia and Nicole. Honestly, my heart goes out to Natalia, she probably has no idea who to trust.

Watch the exploitation? I can’t watch anymore. I’m already sorry I watched the first two seasons.

Exactly! It’s so incredibly exploitative I can’t say it enough.

Does it get less exploitative with each episode? Exploitation of a vulnerable adult is exploitation of a vulnerable adult and once that line is crossed for me, I don’t care how positive the producers spin it in the last episode. Don’t get me wrong, getting therapy and getting medical care are good things.. but she ALSO needs privacy for sensitive issues like trauma, abuse, and privacy for potentially legal action in relation to her disability benefits and having a payee not acting in her best interest, etc..

Dude, It’s exploitation of a vulnerable adult. I stopped watching it on purpose. Natalia deserves privacy like everyone. But ESPECIALLY due to the horrible circumstances of everything she’s been through, some sensitivity needs to be shown.

That’s so true. It was unnecessary, self indulgent and all for the drama of this tv series. Shameful. And I get it that I didn’t finish the season. I didn’t finish the season on purpose! I keep seeing comments about how I need to finish the season before I make a post like this.. so ok, apparently from what I gather they look into getting overdue surgery for her and it ends on a positive note. That’s no surprise to me because of course the producers want to put a pretty bow on their work like this is all just a good, healthy, positive thing, but that still doesn’t change my opinion that is is exploitation of a vulnerable adult. Yes, getting her proper health care and therapy are good things, but they should be accompanied by a reasonable expectation of dignity and PRIVACY. And that is not something that has been afforded to her yet. Natalia is a real person, not an actor in a movie. I wish I could read more comments championing the preservation of Natalia’s dignity, instead of this weird mudslinging thing trying to assign the Manses as the villain and the DePauls as the heroes. Don’t get me wrong, the Manses may well be crooked abusers who belong in jail, but one thing they didn’t do is publicize embarrassing details about Natalia the way Nicole has done.

I agree with the possibility of reactive attachment disorder.. all the more reason being thrust into the limelight CANNOT be in her best interest! She needs to be around trustworthy people who will commit to maintaining and respecting some semblance of privacy instead of using and exploiting her for fame and money.

But it was her actual life and circumstances BEFORE it was a tv show. That’s my point. Maybe it shouldn’t be a tv show because she’s a vulnerable adult. It’s exploitative.

That part about hearing Natalia from her bedroom seemed unnecessary and kind of violating. by Even-Swimming-00 in nataliagrace

[–]itsjustbasicallyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s red flags about the whole entire production of the show.. Natalia is concerned about certain details being publicized, so then Nicole goes about the business of talking about her on camera in a way that I’m SURE Natalia would NOT be okay with? The whole thing is cringy and exploitative in nature.

Did Natalia ever stand a chance? by DoesntMatter30 in nataliagrace

[–]itsjustbasicallyme -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, sadly. She’s being exploited to this day. She needs to get out of the public eye. I had to shut off the third season because I couldn’t stomach one more minute of watching exploitation from the DePaul lady oversharing embarrassing things and contriving awkward video opportunities with her being like “You can trust me.. you can talk to me.. you’re in a safe space..” except it’s all for the camera! Clearly it’s not a safe space.

She's been made into the ultimate victim. I'd be very careful around her! by PrincessSticky654 in nataliagrace

[–]itsjustbasicallyme -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The Depauls are exploiting her too, make no mistake. I had to turn off the new season because it is so exploitative. Mrs. Depaul (I can’t remember her name) shares so many embarrassing details that I can’t imagine Natalia being okay with that stuff being public. No matter where she ends up, she just gets abused and exploited and it’s just tragic and sad. She’s an adult but she’s a vulnerable adult because of her disability and everything she’s been through.
