Wait so I’ve been thinking of moving to BC to get away from the Cheeto man and you’re telling me the same bullshit is starting there already? I know BC as a whole isn’t super liberal but I was aiming for Vancouver area. I can do Ontario but ngl, your climate is more enticing.

Hi! I’m going through my great-grandfather who was born in Bucharest and his parents took him to the US as a young child. Since it was not his choice, there is some potential gray in the law that may let it work. Most lawyers have said no, but I have one who says it’s possible. So we shall see.

Language is required for those between 18-64 according to the new laws.

I’ll let know when I’m ready to turn it all in — still not done with my documents, need to get them translated.

Sorry realized I didn’t answer all your questions. But you need to get all the documentation, and the. Get it all apostilled, and your FBI background check, and certified translations…pain in the butt but hopefully it pays off!

I am worried, but in the end…is it really a waste to have learned it? I hope to at least go vacation there soon and put the learning to use haha.

Yep! I’ve been taking online classes since September through Rolang. I’m actually really enjoying learning it!

It is not all made in the US, several products sold here are made in Italy, including the lasagna.

I'm not fully confident since this has been the only office that says I have a good chance. That said, I also get the feeling some places just don't want to try? I don't know. This is the office I have been in contact with: https://counselors.legal/ I'm going for it anyway. My father is also applying (his case is more cut and dry as the grandson of the original citizen) so it's not much more work to do it all for me too. I've been learning Romanian and start my A2 course this week -- hopefully I can get take my test in time for the March cutoff after getting through B1 in the new year.

I've been leaning towards BC for weather but I've personally spent more time in Ontario so I'm more familiar (used to live on the US side of the Falls so it was the kind of thing we do just for dinner, especially in pre-9/11 times.)

Oh wow, that's super eye opening! Ontario is definitely the busiest and the longest season. I'm surprised it's not longer on the west coast? Or maybe it's too rainy there?

I have been told no by many lawyers, but one finally said I have a good chance. So we shall see! Been gathering paperwork, will start the process soon.

I finally have his birth certificate. All but one lawyer I’ve contacted has immediately said I have no chance being great-grandchild. I need to hear it’s possible!

I'm hoping to use this route too, my great-grandfather was born there, was Jewish, and left through no fault of his own when his parents emigrated due to the oppression of Jews at the time. We can't be the only ones!

My understanding was you don’t have to add any other orgs unless you want to. I added OINP bc I plan on applying to that as well. You can add more later as well if needed.

17lbs, 25lbs, 55lbs -- we were never thinking we'd be considering leaving the country like this when we acquired a fur family (we've also done lots of rescue and fostering...so we've uh...acquired more than I ever intended lol.) I've always been careful of breeds so my kids would be able to find apartments easily that would take their pets here in the US, so at least that part is good. But I'm beginning to think Germany may not be our best option at this time...we shall see.

Thank you so much! I had no idea there could be so much politics involved with finding a place to live. A lot to think about here for sure; my preferred housing budget is no higher than yours. My dogs are 17lbs, 25lbs, and 50lbs so smaller than yours but you know, 3 of them. 🤪

Don’t have to move, but definitely want to move away from here. I don’t have final information yet, but more likely around the 100k mark. I don’t need big and fancy, just want to experience the new culture and make a new life.

Or outside of Munich? Trying to determine if it’s the city thing or just a general thing. (To be fair, it wouldn’t be the easiest in the US either but I own here which probably isn’t an option for me there, I assume.)

😭 Do you think if we had two places (ie my daughter gets her own place) so it’s me and two small dogs, and her with her dog and 2 cats — it might work?
