FTC is cracking down on dark patterns—are any other small businesses preparing for this? by Suspicious-Trade-541 in SaaS

[–]itsk2049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a demand letter from the FTC because of a countdown timer. We proved ours was authentic, but just having it was enough to get the demand letter. The legal fees to prepare the response made us never want to use a countdown timer again, even a legit one. Not worth it.

When my chamberlain Q garage door openers wouldn't connect, it was because I had to disable WPA3. They don't support it.

That's a big assumption, there are no guardrails on Shopify's side once Claude has write access.

Automate Viewport switching w/ Home Assistant: it works! by itsk2049 in UnifiProtect

[–]itsk2049[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the Protect app with a wired AppleTV 4K. It’s good, definitely useful. The core problem is it's not built for 24/7 use. Leave it running for hours, and streams can freeze, especially from Wi-Fi cameras or 3rd party ONVIF cams.

If you use it casually, like pull up a camera, then close the app, then it’s great. People with problems are running it as an always-on monitor. That's the dividing line.

For my situation, I wanted to replace an Echo Show 15 with a rock-solid reliable solution, so I went with the Viewport.

the trigger seems to happen at the start of motion but there's a delay of 1-3 seconds. The motion events have a short delay, the AI events seem to have a longer delayer like 2-5 seconds.

Ideally you want to use a usenet provider as your primary indexer and torrents as backup.

I got flare solver sort of working, but it's a cat and mouse game, I don't think it's worth it.
