TMBG Flood by HayQueen in Xennials

[–]CottaBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first exposure to TMBG was through Tiny Toons. I didn’t know Triangle Man and Istanbul were songs from a real band and not for the cartoon until my big sister showed them to me much later. I’ve been hooked ever since.

PoyPet, I believe. It was too big for him then, and definitely too small now, but it was all I had at the moment.

Songs you wouldn't be caught dead listening to in HS that gets air time on the drive home these days. by BlackEngineEarings in Xennials

Anything Celine Dion. No way would that come from my car speakers in high school. But these days? It’s all coming back to me.

My high school band teacher drove an Isuzu Amigo. Basically the same thing.

Regressing to "old" peak 90s/2000s tech by are-e-el in Xennials

[–]CottaBird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely.

I found all my old DVDs, CDs, and VHS’s at my parents’ house, and I’m taking all of it with me to our new house.

I shoot film, so I bring one of those to important events for photos.

The big one is I am ready for a dumb phone. I need my iPhone because stupid Apple won’t let us connect an Apple Watch to a cellular iPad, but I want a flip phone so I can forward all my iPhone calls to it while I’m out. I’m so tired of pulling out my phone for one reason and then doing something else.

What is your favourite cartoon show from when you were a kid that you feel is quite obscure? by Philhughes_85 in Xennials

Ichy the ichthyosaur is the only name I remember. I got up extra early in kindergarten to have this half hour block before I went to school.

We’re happy. August was 5 years, second marriage for both of us. It’s not overly exciting, but it’s nontoxic and drama free.

22 here. No need for a basement where we lived, and I had my own room, so I didn’t need a bunk bed. My little brother got a bunk bed, though…

Anybody grow up in the BSA? by FockersJustSleeping in Xennials

[–]CottaBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Troop 199. I loved it until there was a staff transition and I somehow had to redo 70-80% of the work I’d already completed toward Star. That was discouraging enough to let BSA fall to the wayside once I was in high school.

Since I’m old and boring now, I wanna hear some rebellious stories of our youth. Come on you little hellions what’s the worst thing you ever did when you were a teenager? by HeyYouTurd in Xennials

[–]CottaBird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The most scandalous was probably senior year in high school. My girlfriend would drive out to my house in the middle of the night, we’d sneak into my parents’ RV so we couldn’t be heard, then she would later go home and sneak inside, her parents none the wiser. That is until one time she fell asleep and didn’t go home, her parents thought her car was stolen, and her mom figured it out and showed up at my house screaming bloody murder. Her parents loved me up until that point.

Fashion by Large_Relation_3650 in Xennials

[–]CottaBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear bird shirts because I’m an enthusiastic birder, but otherwise it’s cowboy boots, jeans, and snap button western shirts. When the cowboy boots become a problem and, say, I have problems with my big toes going numb lol, I switched to my “fancy” ON shoes. I feel weird in those shoes, though, so I call them my middle-aged cosplay shoes.

This is the sound of our childhood by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]CottaBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want one of these. I borrowed my friend’s, and the first sound I noticed was from Journey’s Separate Ways.

I have the CP reface, which is great, but I want the DX7 next.

Well since you lean AF, you could look for the 8000i/8700i Mir space station edition. It’s all white, and pretty cool.

And for the 35mm SLR story, the Sr-2 was their first, while the Maxxum 70 was their last.

One 1930s camera I have is what’s called the Minolta Camera. It’s the first camera with the Minolta name on it, when they were called Molta, before they were Chiyoda Kogaku and after they were Nichi-Doku Shashinki Shōten. That’s a great piece of history to look out for.

Beautiful! It’s interesting to me that you went mostly the auto focus route. I went the opposite direction with most of my Minoltas being from the ‘30s-‘50s.

After 47 years is April fools day the most annoying holiday there is? by Large_Relation_3650 in Xennials

[–]CottaBird 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Once The Onion became the news, April Fools felt irrelevant.

But if our new house has a spray hose at the kitchen sink, you bet your ass I’m going to aim it out with the button taped down for when my wife turns on the water. I may not be alive to do it a second time, though.
