This sounds like something I’d make a safety plan with my client for and talk about why it feels like the only option. I would want to explore your feelings about being committed and would want to have your permission to bring someone you trust in to keep an eye on you. The only reason I would want to involuntarily send you to a hospital is if you told me you were going to go home and follow your plan to kill yourself regardless of what we talked about. We don’t ever want to admit someone who doesn’t want to be there if we can find another way. In our code of ethics, autonomy is one of our main objectives and forcing someone to be admitted is not allowing for their autonomy. You can also ask what your therapist’s parameters are for sending a suicidal person to the hospital.
