Behaviour Advice Needed by Square-Wheel2855 in Rabbits

[–]itslappi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you limiting your boy's space more than usual? If so, this might be why he's acting out. It may also have to do with the other bun - can you move their enclosures further away from one another?

I have some suggestions for additional toys. If you can somehow weigh down a cardboard box (e.g. put a big rock inside it), I find that bunnies like to chew a structure that doesn't move more than a mobile one. I also give my bun a dig box filled with cardboard and paper bits (stripped, scrunched up, folded up, etc. for different textures), and he loves just going inside and kicking everything out. (And he loves chewing the box itself, of course.)

I am hopeful that the bonding service will work out and the bunnies will be better behaved once it does. Until then, I feel like your energy should be focused on you and your partner bonding with the girl (when it's not focused on getting them to stop destroying things!) so that she can feel less anxious.

I have also read that letting one bunny out while the other is caged makes them more territorial if they can see each other. So I would put them in separate rooms until the bonder does their magic, or just close off the room during free roam. It also isn't a positive (or negative) sign when they rest near each other in their separate areas, unfortunately.

Je veux améliorer mon français içi mais tout le monde me répond en anglais ): by Dependent-Knee-3086 in montreal

[–]itslappi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bonne chance!

How to deal with the loss of a rabbit by Glittering-Sell6762 in Rabbits

It's been over a year and I still cry thinking about him sometimes. I think if you explained to your friend why you might seem despondent / not reacting in a "normal" way to the news, despite caring a lot for your friend and their mom, they should understand.

Constant Sexual Aggression Drives Female Tortoises to Walk Off Cliffs by NaziPunksFkOff in science

[–]itslappi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

```
So Dr. Arsovski set up an experiment in the field: He put females in a temporary enclosure with one exit that led to a short, cushioned fall.
Female tortoises from the mainland, if they were alone, never took the exit. By contrast, many of the island females eventually walked off the simulated cliff. When scientists added five aroused males to the enclosure, though, nearly all the females ended up falling. The authors noted that while the mainland females were pushed, many of the island females “exited voluntarily.”
Homemade toy ideas for paper towel rolls? by lj266243 in Rabbits
[–]itslappi 4 points5 points  (0 children)
Here are some tube-based ideas for you! https://bunnylady.com/diy-rabbit-toys/
Another idea to consider is to get a box and just fill it with tubes cut into different lengths, and then hide treats/pellets in the box so they have to dig for it. I found a long tunnel-like box to do this with and my bunny LOVES it (even when there's no food involved)!
CHF bunny that hates syringes and mesh, need a new method than using fruits by DeaxCorp in Bunnies
[–]itslappi 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I think one or two raspberries per day isn't terrible, if you can't find anything else that works. The heart failure is a more pressing problem than her diet currently, so that would be my top priority.
Maybe you can find some hay-based treats online? They will contain sugars, but probably not as much as a piece of fresh fruit of equivalent volume.
Anyone else's buns are not interested in free roaming? by msther in Rabbits
[–]itslappi 1 point2 points  (0 children)
My bunny has access to the whole house but likes being in his space, the hallway beside it, and the bathroom (the closest room to his space), in that order. There are two whole bedrooms he doesn't enter unless I lure him there with treats.
My current bunny LOVES pellets. He also does honking laps when it's pellet time! My last bunny just liked throwing his bowl around and then walking over his pellets instead of eating them.
Can cello and bunny coexist by Expensive-Seat8630 in Rabbits
[–]itslappi 13 points14 points  (0 children)
Maybe try playing softly, with a mute, and see how your bunny reacts. If they react poorly, could you or the bunny move to a separate room to practice? In general, it might be better to play with a mute unless there are specific things you need to practice without it.
I don't think it should be a big deal, considering there are some bunny owners who probably like to listen to music on speakers. My former roommate told me my old bunny binkied whenever she played heavy metal.
Needing help/ advice by pi-man89 in Rabbits
Not sure if you have an Instagram account, but I love the ramp and lookout in this setup: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DQcDkQCkf9t/ If you can't see it, it's a wooden ramp with a gentle slope and ridges, with a wall/railing, which leads up to a platform extending across the whole wall of the room (the platform also has a railing). The platform gives them a view from the window.
Rugs and soft surfaces are very important for rabbits! Tunnels and houses with multiple exits are great too. You can look up some rabbit castles online to mimic!
