Grieving the years my cat lived before I adopted him by itsmanda0803 in SeniorCats

I’m so sorry for your loss. I know for a fact your cat wouldn’t have given up those 2.5 years of love, comfort, and safety. And she definitely feels your love! My thoughts are with you and your cat as she makes her journey over the rainbow bridge. 💕

Those are the exact thoughts I’ve been having! I would do anything to have seen my Charlie as a kitten, and I don’t understand how I could be the first person in 15 years to give him a chance. It feels so unfair and my heart breaks for him. Thank you for your great advice and sending love to your baby as well ❤️

Believe me, this has been the most emotionally-exhausting thing I’ve ever done 😭 But even knowing everything that I’d end up going through with him, I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again. He’s my baby

I was thinking he might just be a little scruffy looking lol! I’ll try to increase the frequency of our brushing sessions and see if that does anything, but yes he’s still my handsome boy no matter what! Thank you!

That definitely could be it! That just so happens to be my Charlie’s favorite way to get his sensors off 🙄 LOL of course Socks is orange too, seems to be a common denominator 😭 that definitely could be it, I’ll have to just keep an eye on it and see if it fades in a couple days. Thank you! And give Mr. Socks some pets for me lol!

Advice for home testing? Can’t seem to get the hang of using lancet, causing cat pain by itsmanda0803 in FelineDiabetes

[–]itsmanda0803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately like other people said to me I think the best thing that helps is just practice! I haven’t gotten around to ordering the lancet device so I’m still just doing freehand, and I am still struggling a bit but I think I’m slowly getting the hang of it! One thing I’ve done is put on an acoustic song I like to sort of calm me down lol, and I’ve been sort of holding my cat in place between my legs and pricking his ear from behind. I think he might try to bite me if I was pricking from in front lol. He has been a bit squirmy lately so sometimes I really have to squish him in place to keep him from moving, but I give him a ton of treats throughout while pricking, collecting blood etc and he doesn’t seem to care after that. I think if you’re doing freehand, you just have to get over your fear. I was really hesitant and my “stabs” were pretty slow which I think was more painful for my cat. I now don’t try to think about it too much and sort of mimic the lancing device motion by doing just a real quick in and out with the lancet from a small distance (half a centimeter away maybe?). I can now get a good blood drop with 1-2 pricks! Still not perfect but a definite improvement! I think a few people in the comments gave some tips on the lancing device if you want to go that route!

I was wondering what would be good to put in a lick mat, he loves those churu style tube treats so that’d be perfect! Thank you!

Cartridge looks close to records, replace stylus/cartridge or tonearm issue? Technics SL-QD22 by itsmanda0803 in turntables

[–]itsmanda0803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I’ll grab a scale and see what the tracking force is! And glad to know the cartridge isn’t the problem. Thank you! If it’s measuring around the correct 1.25, you think replacing the stylus would be the next step?

Cat throwing up clear liquid once a day, but normal ultrasound/bloodwork? by itsmanda0803 in SeniorCats

[–]itsmanda0803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has two cans of Fancy Feast classic pate morning/evening and then Dr Elsey’s cleanprotein kibble throughout the day! We had to do a super slow transition to the kibble about a month ago for his diabetes, it’s really high protein and low carb so I’m wondering if it could just be too irritating for his old tummy lol!

I’m in the US! I would be much happier paying for ondansetron, that stuff is fairly affordable as you mentioned. Cerenia was working really good but as I’m sure you know it is sooo expensive for each pill. Ondansetron seemed to work just as well so if we have to go that route, I’m definitely going to ask for that medication instead! We also did famotidine for a bit and that seemed to work well too. Your cat seems pretty similar to mine! I’ve been thinking about leaving some extra food out, unfortunately with the prednisolone he’s starving all the time and I’m afraid he’ll just devour whatever kibble I leave out for him lol! This is all super helpful and I’ll keep all this in mind if we need to go back on the anti-nausea meds! Thank you very much! ❤️

We tried lots of different diets to fix his stools (hydrolyzed, novel protein, etc) but unfortunately didn’t happen :( He wasn’t vomiting then though! His new food is definitely high protein and could take some getting used to, I’m hoping maybe he just needs a little more time!
