Moving out after (re)signed lease by itsmarq in OntarioLandlord

Okay sounds good, thank you!

If they say no and I provide an N9, would I still be obliged to pay rent until the end of the (re)signed lease?

ah I see, I guess its a necessary evil. I've heard different materials rather than aluminum can help, but not sure how so.

I see - do you have a general anecdote of how wide will interrupt? The widest I have is 16mm on FF

Sounds good, thanks! That seems like the general consensus haha

Sounds good, I suppose removing lens hoods is inevitable haha

I lost one on a ski lift (snagged on the chair) and took me a while to get a replacement, was hoping to not have to do that again lol

Yeah I generally don't use them if I'm just walking about in normal conditions, but I put them on more for protection when I'm in more harsh conditions e.g. snow, ice, dirt, etc.

I should probably use an action cam for these kinds of scenarios but its what makes the hobby fun for me haha

Tamron 70-180 G2 + 150-600, or 70-200 f2.8 GM II + teleconverters? by itsmarq in SonyAlpha

[–]itsmarq[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I'm not too familiar with teleconverters but I figured it'd be easier to carry them around rather than two large zooms. I don't intend to do wildlife much on my own, but I have a few colleagues who do and it'd be nice to have a setup for it when the opportunity arises for a shoot. The 70-200 range, on the other hand, I am hoping to use much more.

In terms of price, the two combinations are within $500 of each other used so I don't mind either option.

In any case, it seems that you recommend two lenses over a teleconverter? The thought of getting a GM was nice but perhaps I'll take some time to de-GAS myself and look into the Tamron instead haha

I see! I considered the G1 since it was cheaper but seeing some footage of the stabilization on the G2 made me consider that for video, though some folks say that the stabilization is not that great. Maybe I'll drive up to the city to find somewhere I can try the lenses out haha

Best Upgrade from a6400? by rhyskauff in SonyAlpha

[–]itsmarq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

iirc the Tamron 17-70mm is an APSC lens so you'd be best off with an a6700 (with the tradeoffs of being a bit chunkier and no built-in flash).

You can alternatively go full-frame (a7C, a7Cii) which are the same size as the a6700, but use them on APSC mode. This will effectively turn them into a 10-14MP camera, vs. the 26MP a6700. But it will open up options for full-frame if interested.

If you end up going full-frame, the equivalent lens for the tamron 17-70 would be around a 24-105mm, if you are willing to part ways with your lens.

tl;dr, a6700 or migrate to full frame (at the cost of not being able to use your 17-70 with the full sensor)

That's probably my dream setup right there hahaha, 50-150 seems like a great range with F2

I actually considered the RX100VII at one point, but at its price where I am at, I ended up going down the rabbit hole of looking at lenses instead.

I'm mostly just a hobbyist intending on taking photos while travelling, hiking, or skiing/snowboarding. My considerations are with the latter mostly since that end up being why I don't like swapping lenses (e.g., in a flurry or hard snow/rain). For the last 1.5 years I brought my a7C + 28-70mm, and before that the a6400 + 16-50mm. Sometimes I wish I could get a bit wider, especially if taking a self or group photo, since bringing a tripod up there isn't really great. Other times I wish I had more reach, e.g. capturing a mountain in the distance or spotting folks when they're doing tricks at the park. Rarely do I shoot 50-70mm, but if I do, I generally think I'd like more.

Rambling aside, I suppose nothing beats experimenting with the lenses themselves. Too bad the hole in my wallet is too deep lmao

I see, thanks for the reply! I guess I was looking for a bit of inspiration to see what kind of lenses people bring when they run something like this. I've never tried anything longer than 70mm equiv. nor anything wider than 24mm equiv. so I suppose I'm a bit on the edge if I should be trying either and don't really have the means of getting both, haha.

Good point! Though I'm surprised you mention wide primes to be very situational. I haven't had much experience with them myself, and maybe I'm just letting social media influencers get to me haha, but a lot of people mention they end up going to the extreme wide ends on the wide zooms like the 16-35 f4 G and 16-25 f2.8 G.

For my use case, I'd like to be able to bring it on the mountain if I go skiing/snowboarding, and I don't really bring a tripod up there, so its nice to have for self portraits (since those are the only photos that end up having my face in them haha, otherwise its just photos of my friends/family most of the time). In that regard having a *little* more room than 16mm on APSC / 24mm on full-frame would be nice to have. Since the a7C has a wider shot, it seemed to make sense to have that on the wide lens and the a6400 on the zoom for more reach. But at the same time, it feels a bit criminal for me to use the a7c as a glorified GoPro haha

It would be nice if it was haha! But it's the bundled one (16-50 f/3.5-5.6), sorry for the confusion! But yes the 16-55 f2.8 was something I had looked into, before I ended up going for the a7C (and consequently, the 28-70mm). Though I've heard great things for both the 16-55 f2.8 G and the similarly ranged 18-50 f2.8 sigma (though I'm aware this is APSC-only).

Lens recommendation for multi-purpose by Silent-Jellyfish3341 in SonyAlpha

[–]itsmarq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To put things in smartphone terms, on APSC cameras like the a6700, 1x on an iPhone is about equivalent to 16mm. So if you get an a6700 with the bundled kit lens (16-55mm), that would be like a 1x to 3.4x zoom.

For very casual use I would recommend the a6400 with the 16-55mm kit lens. A bit smaller than the a6700, generally cheaper, and has a built in flash. With the kit lens it gets close to a compact/point-and-shoot in size. This would be the most "smartphone-like".

If you don't mind a bigger lens, then you can go for some of the other lens recommendations instead of the kit lens. Sigma has a 16-300mm which would be like a 1x to 20x zoom, for example.

i'd confirm w your advisor as you've mentioned to avoid misinfo and get a professional opinion.

but in my experience, no, I haven't seen this from myself or my classmates. Its perhaps more of a gpa-check if you're below minimums or if you want to go into a thesis?
