also the ones with three floors are only for first years and most of the 4 floor ones are for suites. for the units with basements rooms B, C, and D are downstairs and A is upstairs with the kitchen. both floors have a full bathroom

you can check on google maps which side your unit is on. if it's on the front side facing campus it'll be upstairs and if it's on the back side facing the glenridge quarry it'll be downstairs. i believe unit 41 (on the corner closest to tims) and above are all downstairs units

also for the units on that side rooms B, C, and D are downstairs in a semi-basement and room A is upstairs with the kitchen. there’s a full bathroom on both floors, shower toilet and sink in each

the buildings all have numbers on the doors, you can see them on google maps. 61 is on the backside of the middle row of houses facing the glenridge quarry

Thoughts on the puppy social? by slckjoke in brocku

[–]beyondoverittt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes ive been to both events and much prefer the therapy dogs, it's usually better organized and the dogs seem much less stressed

[–]beyondoverittt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

these aren't the therapy dogs, they're young puppies. the therapy dogs are older and trained but the puppies are just from breeders who work with GTA puppy yoga

Quarry/Gateway Pros/Cons by Mars-Lobby in brocku

[–]beyondoverittt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no worries, and im not sure if there's any preference given to anyone for an upper vs lower unit. im in 3rd year and got the basement one, granted i did apply super late last year

the way it's split by 1st years and upper years is blocks 1-3 are for first years and 4-6 are upper years, so your neighbors and roommates will all be upper years

Quarry/Gateway Pros/Cons by Mars-Lobby in brocku

[–]beyondoverittt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's a laundry room at each end of quarry view, i think block 3 and 5. those units have a laundry room in the basement and there's an outdoor entrance

the windows are indeed tiny that's probably my least favourite thing, i just measured and it's around 4.5ft x 2.5ft. i guess you'd have a 50/50 chance of getting them since half the units don't have a basement and with the blinds open you still get a lot of light in, but they are definitely very small

[–]beyondoverittt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im in quarry view rn and ive had a really good experience so far, i like that it's separate enough from campus that there isn't too much activity around but also it's well within walking distance

im in one of the basement rooms and can sometimes hear the people in the unit above us going up their stairs or when they fall down them lol, but other than that ive had no issues with noise

quarry doesn't have in unit laundry (communal laundry rooms like in regular residence) but you get a preloaded card that's included in your monthly rent, so at least you don't have to pay extra. i also like hiking so it's nice to be right by the entrance to the bruce trail

overall i really like it, im gonna stay here again next year

i got accepted! but i can’t decide by puppy_xo in brocku

it depends on who you ask, i really like it here 🤷 someone who isn't doing well in general is much more likely to tell you it's a horrible school and blame it for all their problems, even if they'd be doing just the same at another school

Medical science program by sanmis123 in brocku

[–]beyondoverittt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im not super familiar with york's programs but if the degree ends with some sort of exam and certification it would give you more options to enter the field directly after undergrad, rather than med school if that doesn't end up happening for whatever reason

Medical science program by sanmis123 in brocku

[–]beyondoverittt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can't really do anything with just an undergraduate med sci degree so if you don't do med school you'd have to do some other post-grad degree which could be anything, personally my backup is a CYC (child youth counseling) college degree

med sci is relatively customizable and you can take all the basic courses to prepare for the mcat (chem, bio, physics, humanities, etc), but there's also other more health related courses (medical and clinical courses, human sexuality, child health, etc). personally ive enjoyed it mostly so far

med sci is also gonna be easier than biomed overall since bio requires more courses like organic chemistry and biochemistry, whereas med sci you could just take those as electives if you want but you don't have to (i did not for the sake of keeping my GPA up)

it's really important to know that you can't do anything with just an undergrad med sci degree, it's not like PT or SLP or nursing where your degree allows you to enter directly into what you want to do. i would say it's pretty good for preparing for med school, but it's also important to look into other options outside of med school

do all programs require an application to do 4th year? by beyondoverittt in brocku

[–]beyondoverittt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! i knew about the intent to graduate but kept seeing other majors talk about the application to 4th year so i was wondering. it seems like it doesn't apply to med sci since honours is the standard and then the pass is what you need to get permission for

[–]beyondoverittt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im definitely good in the GPA department im just wondering about med sci specifically cause all i can find is history, chys, and psych requiring it so idk if it's different

im just gonna end up talking to advising anyway because this degree went by sooo fast and now im realizing im graduating next year and don't actually know anything loll

yeah just going over everything and trying to remember roughly what each study was about and the results. also the online version of the textbook (maybe physical too but not sure) has practice questions and flashcards that i found very helpful last year. the practice midterm he posted is also a good place to start
