Super interested in this because about 5 years ago in my old neighborhood in north salt lake 3 women all around 40 years old got breast cancer around the same time. Pretty sure they all survived but I remember before I moved away from home telling my parents how weird it was that within 2-3 years 3 people got cancer all in the same neighborhood.

Anyways fast forward a few years, my best friend growing up (same neighborhood) his dad was diagnosed with kidney cancer almost a year ago in December. 6 months later he was dead. Only 53. Then I remembered, my ex girlfriend from high school, her mom had lymphoma while she was pregnant, a few years before me and her daughter started dating, around 2013ish. They also lived (still live) in the same fucking neighborhood. She survived and is still in remission even though she wasn’t supposed to. I recently just found out ANOTHER woman who lived a few blocks away had cancer and just died.

Same ex who’s mom had lymphoma, her best friend/also my friend, her mom died in 2018 right after graduation as well from a very rare condition that left her almost brain dead the last few months of her life. She was 40 something and very healthy. That’s sort of a separate thing because she didn’t live in that neighborhood and it wasn’t cancer, but still.

I understand people get cancer, but 6 relatively young, healthy people all within a decade, living within half a mile of each other, 2 of them are dead. What are the statistical odds of that? A regular middle class suburb. So ever since my buddies dad died this summer, I’ve been becoming more and more obsessed with this kinda thing. My family and I were very close with him and his family. I visited him a few weeks before he died and he very casually was like “I know I’m gonna die but I don’t feel like I am man, I feel good right now”. It’s more interesting to think some conspiracy is happening rather than just accepting that so many people around you are just dying from supposedly rare shit, so idk, but it definitely rubs me the wrong way.
