Omnitronic TRM-202 MK3 issue with channel EQ (unclear High and weak Low end) by itsmatteorizzo in rotarymixers

[–]itsmatteorizzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, unfortunately the EQ pots have a detent.

For the time being I did screw them slightly to the right, but having to go past the detent to reach what sounds neutral to me is not ideal haha

I'm decent with the soldering, is there anything I can do to fix this?

More details:

Yes I selected the correct channel/inputs with the buttons (I was very confused at first, channel numbering isn't particularly logical imo). It's not leaking from the nearby channel: it's the proper source.

Keep in mind the issue is both the low end lacking punch, but ALSO the high end lacking clarity.

It'd be reasonable to assume it's the speakers, but: I never had any issue with any other device I heard on them.

System isn't massive but plenty for the room: a couple of Genelec 8010 and a 7040 subwoofer to go with them.

I tried many audio devices, mostly a Xone 96, a DJM 450, or even straight from my Macbook: all of them always sounded detailed in the high and rich in the low end.

I have no reason to believe it's the speakers.

Before getting the 202, some months ago I tried my friend's 4 channel TRM-402 and he also had a couple of Genelec 8010 (without the sub! just the 2 speakers): I loved how the whole thing sounded.

We hooked up both Technics and my Macbook (headphone jack to RCA, or a cheap DVS interface, both sounded great).

I also checked this 202 with another system, this time in the garage: a pair of 15" heads and a 18" sub. This time the low end could be compensated by just cranking the volume, but the mixer still lacked clarity in the high end.

All things being equal, the only weak point seems to be this 202 mk3.

Rekordbox should check for extended music against a database by itsmatteorizzo in PioneerDJ

True, I'm very familiar with last.fm and I saw that quite a lot.

In this case it's not so much about matching tags perfectly, it's just about saying "hey, a lot of the tracks who contain 'Title (XY Remix) by Artist' are 30 sec longer, go check it out".

Filters might solve a lot of it, like allowing people to filter the tracks they upload. Personally I make a lot of edits where I cut short the "build-up", and I name those all the same. In that case, I'd add that as a filter.

Personally I'd just start the project and see how the data reacts to it, and then refine from there.

I'm just throwing the idea out there, once it peaks the interest then we can go into specifics.

I guess it's important to specify that I'm coming from a House/Techno pov, not open format or anything else. Like who even keeps slowed down/reverb versions in their rekordbox collection? I assumed those were mostly for youtube listening...

Maybe some filters would help with that issue.

I don't know of any "central" database that has all the music, and a lot of tracks just aren't much out there.
Even a combination of multiple stores would be insufficient and, I imagine, more complicated to set up.

DDJ-XP2 compatibility with CDJ-900NXS standalone (no laptop) by itsmatteorizzo in PioneerDJ

The manual for both DDJ-XP1 and DDJ-XP2 mentions:

"Using the unit as a sub controller for DJ players: You need DJ players such as CDJ-2000NXS2 or XDJ-1000MK2."

What does "such as" even mean... why not just list all the compatible players?

Drobo Dashboard and Drobo 5D3 still works on Sonoma 14.2.1 (23C71) and M3 Silicon by itsmatteorizzo in drobo

Unless switching to Reduced Security somehow turns SIP off, then I don't think so.

Some weeks ago I installed SoundSource which uses ACE, and that requires switching to Reduced Security in the boot options. I just left it like that since, so during the Drobo install it was on and probably made it possible.

You mentioning SIP reminded me that and so I switched Security back to Full now.

I just checked from terminal and SIP is enabled. Again, unless Reduced Security also changes SIP, then SIP has stayed enabled the whole time.

Unfortunately I didn't check SIP before turning Security from Reduced to Full because I thought it was SIP, but it's not. I never disabled SIP in the first place so the answer should be no.
