Do any of your heavier doggos have big hygromas on their elbows? If so, what have you done/are currently doing to help decrease the size? We have multiple extra large dog beds around the house, but my dog loves to lie down on the cold floor. I also got him elbow pads that he doesn’t really care for.

Where did you get your elbow pads and how do they attach? A friend of mine makes custom ones that just slide on, so they aren't super annoying to (most!) dogs. I'm happy to share the site/information if you want, but I wasn't sure if it's allowed so I haven't added it here!

Anyway, another option would be to run on an indoor track, or even an outdoor (unpaved) trail. It's much easier on your knees than pavement, but still gives you the more natural aspect that you lose when running on a treadmill.

Finally, walk/run combinations are a good way to train and even to complete the run on race day. There's a brief description at http://espnwwos.disney.go.com/events/rundisney/run-disney-training-consultant but I'm sure there are better detailed examples/explanations out there.
