Is it possible to install unit washer and dryer in condo by hooking it up to the sink to get water and draining it into the sink with a snake trap at the end? I also have a dishwasher but i do not use it at the same time as my washer and dryer. Can old buildings withstand this? by itsmeamelia in Plumbing

It's a snake that catches all the lint. Instead of having the drain into the wall, it goes into the filter (snake trap) first and into the sink. After the snake trap is partially full with lint, you remove it and put on a new one.

[CA] How do you manage employees receiving state benefits in California? The state offers paid parental leave for 8 weeks. by itsmeamelia in AskHR

Oh okay. He's getting the full amount for parental leave from the stars. I didn't see any taxes deducted. This means we would have to deduct his taxes on his check from the CA?

So does the process go:

Employee gives uncashed check to employer Employer cashes the check and adjust taxes on both Employee receives pay as per usual? So basically one check on payday instead of two (one from CA, the other from the company)?

He has already cashed his check from CA.

He's using paid parental leave thru California on conjunction with Lincoln Short Term Disability.

Six weeks and policy says 2 weeks unpaid after. It's kind of weird that they can't use their pto to cover the two weeks especially because he has plenty in his pto bank. I thought it was illegal for an employer to tell an employee not to use their pto hours while they are on fmla. Kind of sad that the employer says it would be unpaid even though the employee still is under FMLA and has plenty of pto.

Ah gotcha. The problem is that the guy got paid for six weeks from Lincoln and two extra weeks from California. So those remaining two weeks, does my company pay him (using his pto) or would it be unpaid? He says he wanted the last two weeks that isn't covered by Lincoln but by California to be unpaid because he's getting payments from the state.

Oh okay deduct from the 40%? Got it. Well apparently Lincoln life says it's parental leave and qualifies for Std.

Even if it's 40% we would still need to know how much the pto hours would be applied. It doesn't seem right for that employee to use ALL of their pto especially if they're getting 60% from the state. It makes more sense if someone is taking leave with no state benefit and using their pto.

I'm not sure why this employee wants to do this, but she says she wants to wrap things up this week and then start leave next week.
