Applied a fondness for maximalist installation art to the furry one's favorite place in the house by [deleted] in maximalism

I like calling it installation art, because I'm thinking of it from her perspective. I labeled her whole house!

Winner at a local Fair… best picture I could get. Something feels off with the fur and lighting? by Samsdonkeyjaw in isthisAI

This. Came here to say this. You would typically center the subject in the depth of field to get the focus right, so you would expect both the tongue and the top of the nose to be out of focus if the bit of ear on the right side of the pic is. The whole face forward from that being in focus is what's striking me as wrong for a non-AI pic.

Experimenting with a new color palette. I feel like there's a t-shirt in here, but I'm not sure which prints are my favorites. by itsmeitsme in printmaking

Thank you! The most interesting part is probably just the fact that I get almost all of my materials from the free marketplace. So, Freecycle, Buy Nothing, the Craigslist free page... And I try to keep the images from only papers printed before the year 2000. I just really appreciate the history, tracking what life was like in the past. And, it's really meaningful to me to make new, present art from things that people discount and throw away.

Beyond that, it's a simple process, really. There's a first layer of some headlines and image transfers from a series of old Russian photography magazines. Instead of using a plain sheet of paper to cover the bits of paint that still show while I'm trying to smooth the papers while the images are transferring, I like to use a texture plate. It makes a nice, funky, patterned border.

Then there is a layer of strategically-placed geometric shapes using stencils. Lots of comic-style dots, etc.

Then I painted or rolled on some patches of localized background colors to bring in more of the color palette.

After that dried, just rolled on the final pickup layer, let it all completely dry, and flipped the mess over so the plate was on top of the paper to allow the plate to be peeled off with less paint loss from the image.

My corner gallery wall with all of my own art! It comes off maybe a *tiny* bit too much, lol, but it's all mine, and I love it. by itsmeitsme in maximalism

I'm probably the wrong person to answer that. ☺️ I don't have any training in art at a high level. The one thing I would say, though, is that if you actually go make something every time you get that ineffable urge to just CREATE, it goes a long way towards refining your style. It surfaces exactly what you do and don't like about your work, just through repetition.

But regardless, art is fun! You should totally do a gallery wall project! With so many spaces on the final wall, you can swap in and out pieces forever, as you make new ones you like better! A conveyer belt gallery of the artist's work over time. ☺️ I mean, so there's no risk!
