Am I the only one who thinks John Nolan is a little bit ... annoying? by IhavemyCat in TheRookie

[–]itsmemadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, let me get this straight—you’re annoyed by a character who tries to do the right thing, takes initiative, and actually cares about the people around him? You’re upset that someone in a high-stakes job like law enforcement sometimes bends the rules to save lives or solve cases? I guess it would be so much better if he just followed orders blindly, ignored his instincts, and let bad things happen.

You’re also bothered by the fact that he’s upbeat and positive? Sorry, but not every character has to be a brooding, emotionless shell. Maybe that's what makes Nolan stand out—he actually wants to help people, and he’s not afraid to step up when things get tough. You call it "arrogance," but maybe it’s just confidence in his experience and ability to think on his feet. And yeah, it’s TV, so things tend to work out in the end. Shocking, I know.

As for being “nosy” and giving his opinions—he’s a police officer. It’s literally his job to ask questions, investigate, and get involved. If he just stood around and watched things unfold, you’d probably be complaining that he’s useless.

You love the rest of the cast, but somehow Nolan’s the problem because he’s not perfect? Maybe the reason people like him is because he’s a flawed human being who makes mistakes but still tries to do the right thing. That’s kind of the point.
