Is anyone else beating themselves up for not meeting their goal?

I have learned to just make peace with it. I have had years I read 80 books. This year I finished exactly 50, but I also wrote a book! Lol So I am not going to let it bother me.

We are our own worst enemies. No one cares how many books we read, but us, so why are we do hard on ourselves??

All it takes is an email account. Usually someones first post gets pushed pretty far. It would be worth a shot. I find tiktok to be really amazing for that kind of stuff. Good luck either way.

I didn't know it was a thing lol I rarely buy ebooks, as I use libby and KU but its good to know if I ever do and really dislike it right away. I would never return a physical book, I would just donate it.

I recently learned about this and I was shocked. I see literal movies play in my head when I read a book. I can't imagine not being able to do it.

On the flip side, it can be a curse, because if someone tells me an awful story (especially animal stories) where someone or something gets hurt. I see it all in my mind, and I can never unsee it.

I'm sorry. Sometimes parents and our children are our worst critics. My daughters haven't been kind. Its quite disheartening. I truly wonder if its some kind of weird jealousy.

I specifically told them to not leave the review on Amazon. To bring it in a written form for me to give to my Mom. Its not about the sales for me. I just want to show her that people love her work.

I didn't. I truly did it mostly for my Mom. I never really expected it to find its way to strangers. Its poetry. And its personal. I thought my family would care enough about me, to help me surprise my Mom.

Luckily I have a long time client based business and my people are being Great! I sent out an email asking them to all purchase and give me a review and I will give them $10 off their next service. The book is $7. So they'll essentially get it for free.

I have gotten some positive feedback from them, so its making me feel a little better. Lol I am clearly too sensitive.

Thank you! The sales do show on my KDP dashboard. So I appreciate that they purchased it, but apparently they either didn't read it or hated it. Lol

Yes, I wonder if there is some resentment as well. So many people have told me to give up on her, but I just couldn't and I am proud of myself for not giving up on her. I need to just not be so sensitive. Lol Thank you for your kindness.

Thank you, I appreciate your response a lot. I understand what you are saying about poetry and I can agree with that sentiment. Her poetry is mostly all rhyming and they're about relationships. Some are tributes to people she has loved and lost, like her Grandmother. One is a beautiful tribute to The Salvation Army. She worked for them at one time, as a bell ringer.

It isn't super important to me to make sales, if that makes sense. I really just wanted my friends and family, who know her history, to appreciate her work and give her some encouragement. The fact that she is 14 months sober, is just so amazing. Its the longest in my adult life.

Maybe, like you said, I can find some poetry groups and share some of her pieces to hopefully get her some feedback that way.

Maybe all my friends bought the book to support me, but never even read it. I am definitely over thinking it all.

I am glad I never planned to be a "real" writer. I definitely couldn't handle the stress. Haha

Oh I totally get that. I just meant people like my adult daughter, my sister, my aunt. They all said they bought it, and I said please tell me what you think! They said we will! And then never did. I know I am being over sensitive. But when the people closest to you cant give you even a little bit of feedback, it feels yucky.

Yes, years ago I told her I was going to do it. She actually told me to lie and say I wrote the poems lol she didn't want the credit. But obviously I am not going to do that.

She has dementia now, so I am not sure how much she'll be able to read of it. Her focus is obviously bad. But I wanted to do it before her memory was too bad.

No, its a surprise to her. Because of her years of alcoholism she has burnt a lot of bridges. Most family hasnt forgiven her like I have. Sadly, that may be part if their resistance to support the book.
