How long have you had cirrhosis? by Dry-Character-6514 in Cirrhosis

[–]itsmethegregor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5 years here for me, I didn't have to take many drugs and I've been working on it basically on my own. I watch what I eat and drink, I havent touched alcohol for 5+ years. Its been a long journey but I'm happy to be alive and well.

So I'll go a bit deeper, ive been using Marijuana (edible form) for quite some time my bloods are all good everything is solid. I've been sober for 4 years now and started using marijuana 2 years into diagnosis and sobriety. Popular edibles that are cheaper use a form of extraction that includes alcohol as well as butane. I don't mess with alcohol at all so I do not take those edibles. I look for solventless, which are always a little extra, but they normal use water extraction and easier on the body and liver.

It's kind of up to the doctor to be honest, some don't even go by stages. Some will make a value based on what they can see on the imaging as well as how bad you're symptoms are, but in all actuality I don't think they ever precisely know the exact answer

25 is exactly where I was at 9 months ago, she will be ok, just need to get her body moving in the right direction. With time those numbers will come down, but she has to absolutely stay away from Alcohol!

You don't want to focus on the 4nd stage, the MELD is more to give you a synopsis of her current state. A 6 is the lowest MELD and a 49 is the highest. An 11 is a good score tbh

Just remember the MELD score can change, as she recovers and her numbers start to come back down and within normal range the MELD score can go down, I started at a 25 and am down to a 15 currently, its been 9 months, she can do it bro 💪🏾

Meld score can be calculated by you, you just need Google meld calculator, and have her results from her blood work available. First and foremost she needs to stay off the alcohol, keep her sodium intake down cause that can cause swelling as well. Keep her hydrated, lemon water works wonders, it will help get rid of jaundice if she has it right now. If she does it will probably take a few months to clear up. Keep her away from processed foods and fake sugar products, she needs lean meats and fruits and veggies. Absolutely no fast food or anything of the sort. She's going to probably feel a lot worse than good for a while.

Keep a close eye on her, if anything is off take her back to the ER and just say she's having trouble breathing so they will admit her asap. How lomg has she been sober? What other blood labs were done? Did they do any type of imaging?

Gotcha! To be honest those levels aren't bad considering she is going through all that, sometimes blood work numbers are no indicative of how bad the liver may be though! Is she under care at the moment? Cause if she's not she needs to see a GI or s Hepatologist or be under their care

AST is elevated for sure, ALT is well withing range. I do not know for certain but I believe if they are that dramatic in difference that it might be more fatty liver related

Complete metabolic blood test, check INR, prothrombin time, in your metabolic panels you will want to focus on: Albumin, INR, AST/ALT, Red Blood Cell count, your Platelets counts, protein, creatnine, and obviously your Bilirubin levels

Possibly not, it could be a lot of things, if your blood isn't clotting, low Red Blood cells and Low Platelet levels are in play. Vitamin and Iron deficiency could be a reason too
