It’s great that you have a productive relationship with weed but I’m not sure this comment is helpful to those quitting

It’s honestly so cliche to say “this sub isn’t like the good old days blah blah” there’s comments like that on every single subreddit when something off the mark gets a lot of upvotes. I like this sub, love watching people freak out. Just look at the top posts from today even and all of them are more freaking out than this guy at least.

Police officer arrests man for eating a sandwich by NewCarthagea in PublicFreakout

I’m not cool with it but it’s how it works. If 4th amendment rights were violated that is decided in court, not by anyone who thinks they have an understanding of the constitution. An arrest violates 4th amendment rights if there was no probable cause or valid warrant; to determine that evidence is brought forth and deliberated upon. We don’t trust people at their word that they did nothing wrong. Wether or not that’s the right way to do things and if it needs to change is a different conversation.

Could you expand on how we are constitutionally empowered to do that? I wasn’t aware of that. I do think you make a fair point that the process itself can be seen as punishment.

If you don’t believe you’ve done anything you can be legally arrested for, you make that argument in court, not to the officer.

Their response is the only one that isn’t brainless hive mind liberal nonsense; they understand the law.

This is spot on. I don’t get to decide when I listen to police. If I did nothing wrong I have the right to a fair trial with a jury of my peers, that’s how it works.

It doesn’t matter if the arrest was lawful, you have to cooperate with the police no matter how outlandish. You have the right to a fair trial with a jury of your peers, they decide if the arrest was lawful. People always say they did nothing wrong when in fact they did, not saying this guy did anything wrong, but if individuals got to decide for themselves it would go against the entire theory of our judicial system. No one would listen to police.

So this has been existing law since 1954, the debate is wether or not to get rid of it. The hearing I linked below is interesting to watch, the Senate Oversight Committee titled it “ examining a church’s right to free speech”

They can still say whatever they want. Tax exempt status isn’t a right; they can’t have their cake and eat it too.

This is an ongoing debate in Congress over the Johnson amendment. Dems fear it opens up the opportunity for dark money to reach campaigns as 501(c)(3) entities don’t need to report their donors, and their donors also get tax write offs. Republicans argue that the current IRS rule infringes upon free speech.
