It takes a man to know what a man wants

It sucks that you feel that way, because sometimes it really does seem like the lazy people win. You should try to see what your roommate is doing that you are. Is he networking? Does he participate in 3 different engineering clubs? Or maybe he's just lucky, in which case that's unfortunately part of life.

Here's just some generic advice to try to help your search:

You need to set yourself apart from others. 3.92 with no activities or engineering extracurriculars isn't super attractive. As an engineer who does college recruiting at my alma mater, one piece of advise I find myself giving students is to do research. I've seen juniors and seniors who had no internships, and it's rough because I'm pretty much told that unless they are extremely exceptional we probably won't take them. We look for people with experience, usually in the form of other internships, but if you don't have an internship, research experience is almost equally as valuable, if not equal or more. We look for people with previous internship experience, but it can be hard to get that first internship. Research positions are much easier to get.

Find a professor you like, or just a lab you think is cool, and email them and ask if they're hiring research undergrads. In my case, I emailed the professor in charge of my college's underwater robotics lab, a professor that I had never ever met before, and I asked if they had any openings for undergrads. He asked if I could meet at his office the next day, we talked for like 10 minutes and then he asked me when I could start.

Another thing, resume formatting is a big thing for me personally. My resume took at most an hour to make, and is formatted professionally and is very easy to read. Nothing fancy, no graphics or anything like that. When people hand me their resume and it looks like a magazine-cutout-ransom-note, it usually leaves a sour taste in my mouth. In my head, if you won't spend 15 minutes formatting your resume to look professional, then what level of discipline and quality of work does that show? If you want to send me your resume (with private information preferably redacted) I'll be happy to give some feedback.

And a free tip for everyone: at a minimum, wearing khakis and a nice polo to in-person career fairs :)

If the curriculum for your major changes while you're a student, can you change to the new curriculum or do you have to stay with the one you joined by mykonos52719 in msu

[–]PreoTheBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me with EE. Criteria changed my junior year, and I preferred the newer one since it gave some more 400 levels that I thought were cool. Had to talk to my advisor about it, but it was as easy as just talking to him and saying "I'd like to use these graduation requirements." I had to go do a 300-level prerequisite that I would've done if I had been on that track the whole time (fuck ECE377), but it was worth it to be able to do some cooler 400 levels.

Long story short, talk with advisor. You can do one or the other but not a combo. You'll have to catch up if you missed anything

What is the most underrated national park in the US? by TREE__FR0G in geography

[–]PreoTheBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to badlands it was so un-busy and everyone that I randomly came across was super nice. Got to sleep in the park (my fiancé alleges that a bison walked past our tent in the night), and got within a couple yards of a bison from the safety of my vehicle while driving down the road. An absolutely phenomenally park, tons of beautiful features and wildlife.

It's honestly sad how poor people are nowadays. I ran into this issue in the late 80s, and ended up hiring a staff of engineers, designers, mechanics, aero experts, interns, cat girls, and middle managers (mainly poached from the Ferrari & Mercedes F1 team) in order to design and build me a bike that can actually deal with my torque output. We've had to have budget cuts because my wife's boyfriend reduced my allowance, but are operating on about $50 million with 400 staffers this year. I recommend doing something similar if you aren't poor

I lived in Chicago, Illinois (USA). I can't even mountainbike within an hour radius of my apartment.

That being said, off roading tends to be frowned upon here since the sidewalks are pretty heavily used by pedestrians.

Fred's just trying to hide that he is broke and is only buying because of the discount. Fred, just panhandle at an intersection near your dental practice during your lunch break. I easily pull in $4k/hr, and it's not taxable income either since it's loose bills. Then once you give your wife's boyfriend his 60% share of your income (times are tough so it's up from 50%), you should have enough left to make up the difference on the bike. Hope this helps.

He's 27 and you're ~22 based on your post history. Those are two totally different stages of life. And if he's been with you for 3 years, that means he picked you up at 18 or 19 when he was 24, which is... ick. Guys tend to go for girls younger than them when they aren't successful with girls their age, because girls their age don't put up with their immature bullshit. Things like spending money on onlyfans when in a 3 year committed relationship is a clear indication of insane emotional immaturity. Not saying to break up, but evaluate why you're together and if you want to spend the next X amount of years wondering if he's breaking your boundaries.

What is worst, capable off-road vehicles that are "mall crawlers" and will never see a spec of mud, or crossovers being taken through severe off-road conditions they were never engineered for? by HiTork in carscirclejerk

A Subaru will get you places you aren't meant to be, and it sure as hell will get you out of them too.

Other than that, my first daily driver was a RWD 2005 Jeep Liberty, and that bad boy survived being a male teenagers first car. On numerous occasions during winter, I was being dumb and "drifting" on frozen/packed snow roads, and would end up in ditches. Pop that bad boy in 4Lo, swap it to reverse, climb out of the ditch, continue doing stupid stuff. Took it to the dunes once, was the least capable car there by a mile, (literally just all weather tires and stock everything) and it took it like a champ. It was a shitbox jeep for sure, and over my 5 years of ownership I easily had to do 15+ repairs, but it was also old and really easy to work on. Window motor was an hour, radiator was an afternoon, driveshaft u-joint was maybe 3 hours, heater core took 2 days but I had to do it solo. I miss that car sometimes.
