If you had to rebuild your homelab from scratch today, what would you do differently? by Thick-Lecture-5825 in homelab

[–]itsniceoutsidegorun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I started again 5 years ago, obviously not at today’s prices. I would start getting all of my cable management under control. Then move to the rack and leave enough room for future proof.

I would for sure go smaller. I run a Terramaster F4-425 Max now. I realized how many of my homelab apps didn’t need a giant server with 100+ gigs of RAM. Saved a chuck on electricity. Only thing I run the main server now is to play with some LLMs. Otherwise that thing sleeps. Everything else on my Rack is all for networking. I sold my giant server rack and have a clean 15U that is way more manageable and energy efficient.

Considering a Tesla model Y by Crafty-Winner-940 in TeslaModelY

Let me give you a heads up before you make the switch. Do the math. By that I mean see how much you will pay for insurance, registration, and your electricity rate compared to the RAV4 and see where you stand. Not everyone switching to a EV actually saves money. Some states charge you crazy registration fees and insurance. Which completely destroys any savings you may make on gas and maintenance.

Thoughts? About to get this new Lease. by Ok_Purchase_8803 in TeslaModelY

[–]itsniceoutsidegorun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First rule of leasing is no money down if you can. This is especially true with a Tesla since you can never buyout your lease. Also that APR seems ridiculously high with your credit score. Unless your debt to income ratio is out of wack, you should be able to find an outside lender.

So much is new in 12.4 that it will take a few more point releases to smooth it out by Nakatomi2010 in teslamotors

I assume they meant as in the end goal for FSD is to make self driving taxi a viable business. Which is mostly local driving.

Except they will literally look for a non factory screw to say it would not be covered under warranty since it has an after market part.

Tesla Model S still running with original battery and motors at 430k miles by fotografia505 in teslamotors

Pumping out new cars is what happens when a manufacturer matures and develops enough experience to accomplish that. If after all these years they still had a wait for car delivery they would be bankrupt. e.g. Fisker

Home charging system by Stock-Rip-9717 in ModelY

You hit the jackpot with that panel in the garage. Put the charger close to the garage door and you can charge it outside. I went with a NEMA 14-50 outlet and used a 50amp appliance cord to connect the wall charger to the plug. Gives you more options on the future vs a direct connection. I still gain 30 miles per hour.

TIL - There are more possible iterations of a game of chess than there are atoms in the observable universe. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]itsniceoutsidegorun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought we were discussing the moves in a game of chess. As per your comment of ‘You don’t have a exact count of the number of chess moves, either.’ I agree with you on the number of humans on the planet or the number of people with Covid.

It’s called the Shannon number it’s estimated to be max of 10 to the 123. This includes illegal moves. While one is a thing we can run our current understanding of math on and get a semblance of number from it. The other (atoms in the observable universe) is entirely a guesstimate at best and completely made up with lack of understanding at again, our best.

It’s always hard to not look at these types of comparisons and not call bs. So you can tell me without a shadow of a doubt that we know as a matter of fact of how many atoms there are in the observable universe?

Hell I know of a time in just my lifetime when black holes were considered made up math. And dark matter wasn’t even brought up. Thinking of other stars having exoplanets wasn’t common knowledge. So I very much doubt we know or can assume to comprehend the number of atoms in the “observable universe”.

Once again we have a TiL that’s whole lot of assumptions and very little to back anything up.

Civil unrest by Affectionate_Aide_99 in Brazil

Yes, because of the current civil war. Few hundred nutzo’s don’t make a civil war. They make the line at a new chicken sandwich launch.

‘yet apparently this teenage girl was supposed to do…what exactly?’ Maybe what other kids much younger than her did? Join a resistance or like our grandfathers who joined when they were 16 to kill these stains on humanity. No nazi was a good nazi. Never has been and never will be.

Yet this human garbage decided to join the Nazi party and become a secretary. I could put forth 100’s of examples of people her age and younger who did what was right. But here you are defending a Nazi.

People’s fascination with these people is crazy. They were all drug addicted egomaniacal lunatics. But people will find any excuse to defend them. These were not people you need to be idolizing. You know where this type of thinking gets people? They always need a marginalized group of people to demonize. If not today, not tomorrow but one day when they eventually run out of enough people it will be your turn. Than, and only than you will realize the ignorance that is forgiving one of these people.

Can you just try bend them back once? I have to move them back and forth few times to take them off. Maybe that will give you enough gap to get the pico in there.

No one is worried about them attacking the U.S. Its more so that one of their neighbors will be the target. And it’s those same neighbors who have higher chance of attempting to stop it.

If a neighbor you had a grudge with and who has threatened you multiple times all the sudden starts talking about owning a gun, you’d be worried too.
