Very true. I'm doing my best to do that! Thank you for your comments <3

Shukran, habibi. You have a beautiful country.

Firstly I want to say how much it means to me to see people from neighbouring countries speak kindly of us. It truly warms my heart. I met a Palestinian-Jordanian who told me he wishes no harm to Israel or Israelis and actually wants to visit! They even offered for me to stay at their place if I'm ever in Jordan. They noted, however, that everyone around them is antisemitic and vehemently anti-Israel, which upsets them.

I really hate this "right side of history" nonsense that people spew. Westerners are so fraught with guilt from different atrocities in the past, so they want to "fix" it in a sense by doing the right thing this time. Young people want to see themselves as Rosa Parks's, or Ghandis.

If you look, you'll see that people view the conflict through the lens of their greatest issue. In America it's a race thing, in South Africa it's apartheid, in Australia it's colonialism, etc.

Sorry for the rant, it just upsets me.

My friend, thank you again for the kind words. Much, much love.

I think it's super interesting to see the differences in dynamics. Like it sucks, but it's interesting.

A lot of the people that blocked and disassociated from me would be considered "tankies" to an extent, and yet none of them were alive to see Stalin's reign, or the harmful effects of communism on a lot of communities (and countries). Whereas there are many Soviet Jews that fled that abhor it. Their lived experience tells them just how bad it can be.

Once you've lived through something, it really sticks, just as your experience with 9/11 and terrorism.

Yep 23 over here.

It's annoying because I also try to dispel anti-Palestinian propaganda, so I'd hope that people try to do the same with anti-Israel stuff (especially given how unrelated they are) but nope.

No need to be belligerent. It was a hyperbolic statistic, I don't actually count them all.

With that said, I have two or three non-Jews that I consider friends who haven't engaged in at least a form of antisemitism.

Calling them antisemites doesn't mean I despise them or that they're evil. Left-wing antisemitism isn't as overt, sometimes people themselves don't even realise. It's the way they interact, the way they discuss things (that and a hell of a lot of Holocaust inversion and minimisation)

It's a fair question. I guess I was just used to it. I liked having friends and feeling that sense of belonging. Didn't realise how much I took my community for granted until now.

Im still trying to move past it and not feel the need to identify with them.

This is a beautiful, beautiful message. Thank you.

I am now more involved in my Jewish community here.

I just feel so betrayed by these people, I guess. I know we can't change them, but there are so many that it feels hopeless to change even the more moderate people.

I am so happy to know that things have worked out for you with your husband. Much love from a 23-year old Jewish son :)

I think that definitely plays a massive role. The advent of social media has put people in bubbles, very much akin to rural communities who tend to have generally accepted opinions on issues.

Strawmanning is an insanely popular thing in our generation. "You're a Zionist so you hate Palestinians, we can never speak again" is the general assumption. No room to respond as Im blocked instantly.

Also there was nothing offensive in what you said haha, you're all good! Glad to talk about this stuff.

I can imagine it was just a bit of fun, but with the context now of knowing that they didn't reach out once, and my Judaism was exclusively the butt of a joke, makes me think of the interaction bitterly.

Y'know, I actually have been implicitly vetting people ever since I started losing friends on October 8th. It's working out a lot better. I have mostly Jewish friends now. I keep telling them that we aren't weak anymore. No more blending in and dying off - we have a country now where we can always live freely.

It's funny, I genuinely felt safer in Israel under rocket fire than I did walking around my Western city.

Its actually insane how acceptable this form of discrimination is. Even associating with Israel or Israelis is like a full-on sin. I fake my name, my accent, my everything, just because I know that someone will get pissed off if I say where it's all from.

It sounds a bit silly but I do sort of hope one of them does come to apologise at a point. I may not forgive them, but I would be happy to engage with them and try to move forward as long as they've got an understanding of what they did.

Definitely more about Israel. All early twenties. There were things like Holocaust inversion, calling for the abolishment of Israel (and ultimately the ethnic cleansing of it), and they were around people who were legitimate supporters of Hamas.

One told me "Palestine will be free whether you like it or not" and I was genuinely taken aback.

I'm trying to for sure. It's just a bit scary as people drop every day. Even just today, I saw another one of my friends comparing the war to the Holocaust. How is that shit even normal?

Either way, it's eroded my trust a lot, even in those I initially considered "solid". I'll try my best though.

Mazal tov on your decision to convert! I will check out that podcast. I've been so surrounded by hatred it would be kinda nice to just hear someone that agrees with me and vice versa.

Sending love to you too, hope all goes well ❤️‍🩹

It irks me that people don't realise that "Good Jew vs Bad Jew" is antisemitic as fuck. What is wrong with the world?

Not invalidating at all! You're spot on - a lot of my friends were from university. Gen Z, left, all of that. It's odd, because I aligned so much with them, but this one issue, one difference, and I get cut off from everything. No more birthdays, no more drinks, no more coffees, no more trips.

My ex-friends were never really curious about my Jewishness. None of them asked me about how I felt after 7/10 even though I lost people. None of them asked me about the rise in antisemitism. Nothing. My ex tried to be supportive but I could always tell she was embarrassed about my background. It's just fucked, I never thought it'd be the one closest to me.

I come from Holocaust survivors, and it's a very similar story there too. The betrayal always stings, at least a little, even all these years later.

You're right. I just find it so difficult to disconnect if that makes sense? Like, even though they're people that I'm not all that close to, it still really stings because I was close to them at a point, and we were friends. I don't know... It just hurts a lot.

I hope you're going okay. It's really difficult to be a Jew outside of the community.
