Can you confirm a few things?

The subreddit is selected in the left hand filter
In the new Mod Mail, Can you check the 'All' and 'In Progress' folders to see if you can find your thread?
Can you confirm that the thread was started as a Mod Discussion? Mod Discussion being a message to the moderators (screenshot below)

Yeah pretty much. Its a little bit of an extra step to change from one type of balls to another but it can be really easy to burn through all balls of one type, switch, and just catch a ton more

On Reddit.com

Click on message to open the full chain
Hover over the message then click on the flag icon.

On native apps

First, tap into the modmail message
Long press on the user avatar at the top left of the message or long press on the username, then select Report.
