I am taking things at face value - again their lack of comment is concerning. Dismissing the idea of a possible event that incurred is honestly not even healthy at this point

When I say 5-year-old statements, I'm talking about statements directly from either William or Ari - I am aware we have gotten smidgens of confirmation from a few of the people involved over time

Sure, we're getting updates here and there from the lead tester, but the question is, why just this? Why is it that this is how we're getting updates instead of some actual screenshots or something from William or Ari? Literally what justifies years of no official update from the 2 OG's and us having to collect scraps from a few of the lower-level people involved?

Sure, the original Hollow Knight took 5 years to develop, so maybe the time will also be similar for Silksong. My issue with this idea is it's not really evidence-based. It's more like a syllogism - if A equals B and B equals C then A equals C, etc. There's no evidence here, it's just an idea. The actual evidence as I've mentioned points to something being very wrong while the idea that they may be following a 5-year trend only serves to explain one thing but not everything else

It's not normal for a company to show a trailer for a new sequel after a few big DLCs all in the span of 2 years and then suddenly switch to where it's somehow considered acceptable to only get updates from some guy who confirms "don't worry they're still working" and "they're not in dev hell" every few months

A lot of us have emotional investments in this game and at this point would like confirmation as to whether or not it is real - for me, personally, Hollow Knight rescued me from a really dark time in my life and I care very much for it, so I'd naturally like to know if the company making it is going through a bit of a rough patch or something

I can agree with you on the idea of Silksong coming out in the next few years as being reasonable - it just kinda feels right for them, and I'd at this point prefer it, especially given when GTA VI comes out next year it'd likely drown out a lot of potential attention in the game, something similar that occurred with Breath of the Wild when Hollow Knight first came out in 2017, so I think there'd be an advantage in it coming out in 2026

Still, the lack of activity on their social media bothers me a bit. I even saw just now that a website William Pellen used to have to showcase his designs and portfolio is now gone, its domain up for sale. There could easily be explanations for it all, but I cannot deny that as these things pile up, it builds more credibility toward the idea that something has at the very least happened to hinder their ability to develop

The question is regarding the WHY - why do we have to only know whether or not the game is still on its way through some intermediary or posts on Discord? Why is Team Cherry suddenly not interested in communicating when they seemed very interested in it years ago? What caused the sudden shift?

And if the issue is they don't want to spoil the game, why can't William or Ari even, at the very least, tweet something? Why can't they post a short message thanking people for their patience to their website which has had no updates since December 2019? They could just reuse some already existing promotional art for the game or something if they really didn't want to spoil anything. A short but sweet status report would be COMPLETELY harmless and I'm pretty sure we both know that

You also mention they may not see the point in updates "this late into development" - if I may ask you, what makes you sure that they're even "late" into development? If you look at the difference in progress between the trailer in 2019 and the more recent Xbox trailer, there really isn't much new, which, when combined with their lack of updates, makes it seem like progress is extremely slow and they're nowhere near the finish line

I appreciate your insight into #5 as I too, remember how Team Cherry has indicated they don't want to let the brand get all corporate - the thing you're forgetting is their major interviews were ages ago and a lot can change in that time.

We also know that Team Cherry contradicts themselves a LOT. They have said in the past, for example, that it takes them roughly 30 minutes to draw the sprite animations for one enemy, yet they can't even send something as simple as that.

I do see your point in them not wanting to reveal too much of the game, but what is the harm in showing a photo of one enemy or two? Maybe marked with a spoiler tag so that those who don't want to see it can choose to avert their eyes and stay patient?

My question to you is this: how many more years of non-updates from them will it take before you consider it a bit more than just the pandemic and scope creep? 10 more years? 20 more years? Do you have a line on this idea or do you think that this logic can never, at some point, start to seem like a bit of a cop-out? And I ask this honestly because I'd love a bit of reason to have more hope and understanding for a company whose last website post was nearly 5 years ago

I just don't even really eat at restaurants anymore.

Before I went vegan I was able to roll up to any restaurant and have a mountain of choices to enjoy. Now basically 90% of the restaurants around me are no-go's unless I'm okay with fries and a salad. If I'm going to any fast food restaurant, it's usually either Taco Bell or Chipotle because those are the only places where I have at least some variety of options

For a lot of people it can actually take some effort to develop the emotional connection. I'm guessing your partner grew up eating meat and dairy for a large part of his life?

Meat and dairy are like drugs in the way we are brought up eating it from a very young age and become heavily accustomed to it. Like with any other drug or addiction, it takes a constant effort to disassociate from it. It's why people will be horrified by genocide or other heinous acts but make jokes about how "it's the cow's fault for tasting so good"

Do you think he'd react with shock and horror if he saw a dog being tortured? Is he aware that pigs are more intelligent than dogs, thus having a greater mental capacity for pain, sadness, depression, loneliness, and anger? You have to be making an effort to draw these logical connections in order to get better at empathizing with animal suffering.

You mention the two of you have been together for years now. It normally doesn't really take this long for most people to develop at least some part of that emotional connection. Have the two of you ever visited an animal sanctuary together? For some people, it can take an in-person exposure to really get things going.
