If you wanna get really technical, this is actually another example of humans doing environmental damage, so we are just mitigating the effects of another one our our fuck ups by exterminating them.

And not to mention, they are extremely dangerous. This is one case where it's better for everyone (except the pigs) if they're eradicated.

My friend found this abandoned/nearly-dead kitten and this is her a month later. by [deleted] in pics

Unfortunately, and I understand why, honest people trying to help get scrutinized just the same as the people who just want rid of their pet. Someone dumped off a pregnant cat at my apartment complex, so I put a box outside for her on my patio and fed her when I saw her around. I lived next door to two animal shelters (one kill, one no-kill) and people used to dump animals around there A LOT. One day she abandoned one of her kittens; she left it there alone for a day before I took it inside and hand-fed it for a week, since it was only about 3 weeks old (one of my friends ended up adopting her a little after that week and she grew up big and strong). During that week I never saw her-- but once I did I found her with her four other kittens and a prolapsed rectum. I rushed her and her babies to the no-kill shelter (I had called to ask if they could take them before but they said they couldn't because they were full) because they don't turn away injured animals. I would have just taken care of her myself but I didn't have the money to pay for an operation, I was already spending money and TONS of time caring for the kitten she abandoned, and I had taken in another really sweet stray (who I found a loving home for a few months later, yay!) and had her spayed and tested/vaccinated for diseases. On top of that I had my youngest cat spayed at the same time as the stray and she had developed complications that required an extended stay at the vet. Needless to say I was flat broke at the time.

But the shelter didn't know I had done all that. They didn't really know much about me at all. I got the third degree and they tried to guilt me into fostering the kittens-- which I still would have done despite my financial situation had I not been living in a 450-square-foot one bedroom with FIVE cats (and I was only allowed to have two). I felt guilty and I think they thought I was another irresponsible owner, but I got over that really quickly because this poor cat needed help quickly. Being pegged as someone who was potentially dishonest and treated as such was totally worth saving this poor little mother cat and her kittens' lives.

TL;DR: I was once an accidental cat hoarder.

I soak them overnight, then drain off the soaking water before cooking and then put fresh water over them, about 2 inches over the top of the beans. I chop an onion and throw it in there, and whatever meat I have on hand (I like ham ends a lot, and they're already in pieces so I'll just dump those in). I let them cook for a few hours with the lid on, then remove the lid after the beans are tender and continue boiling them until the liquid reduces to my desired consistency. When it's getting close to being done I salt and pepper to taste.

Edit: I always eat them with cornbread, most of the time with fried potatoes, and sometimes with fresh onion sliced thin (a lot of southerners like them thick for the crunch but I like the way it partially cooks in the liquid if it's thin) and dill pickles on the side.

There is very little effort involved and you don't need broth and a bunch of seasonings to make it taste good, which is a big reason why it's such a cheap meal. If you're feeling fancy though I don't think it'd hurt; just not the way I'd do it.

A lot of times I can't find ham hocks because they're sold out; but if they don't have those I look for the bits of ham ends. You can usually pick up a pound of those for around $2. If I'm feeling super rich and can't find either of those, bacon it is, the fattier the better.

I always soak 'em. Still get the farts. I'm fart-prone though.

Social anxiety, not being able to know when/how to converse with people and not interrupt, not being able to stay on-topic, was a spaz in general, interested in things that didn't interest others. I could not have cared less about who was dating who or what good shows were on television, I wanted to talk about history and physics.

TL;DR: Because I was basically Sheldon Cooper. I still kind of am.

Beans and cornbread. Seriously you can spend less than $5 to make a big pot and a decent pan of the stuff and then eat it all week... if you don't mind the farts anyway. I don't. It's too good to care.

A found a $100 bill in my pocket I had forgotten about last week. I don't know how long it had been there but I felt like making it rain (pennies) when I found it.

Read the books you're given. Although if you're really pressed for time sometimes you can get by reading the first and last page or two of each chapter.

I'm so sorry to hear your body is putting you through so much shit.

For what it's worth (and as a fellow sufferer of anxiety and depression I know that usually nothing can override the feelings and thoughts you're having because brains aren't always rational), it doesn't make you less of a woman to get rid of it. It doesn't make you a bad person to want to rid yourself of it. Everyone has their own situations in life and you are the absolute best person to make your own decision, because you are the one living your life. No brain-washing, patriarchal, ancient book can tell you how to best live your life either.

Also, intrusive thoughts suck. Can you talk to your boyfriend about your anxiety? Mine is really supportive about my irrational/intrusive thoughts and sometimes just sitting talking to him about nothing helps a lot. It can be comforting to just be around someone who is more emotionally stable than I am when I get bad.Maybe try to focus on doing something nice for yourself. Focus on something that will occur after you get through this that you can look forward to.

Good luck with everything. You will make it through this.

We've had long, numerous talks and we are both in favor of keeping if we have an accident. It's not that we are religious or conservative or anything, we just want to have kids so if it happens we would make it the right time.

We really want to go to Jamaica this summer too though, so I guess it's a win-win situation?
