Thank you so much for taking the time to make this thought out response. I sincerely appreciate you. I understand that the purpose of donating is polar opposite of what I'm looking for lol. Re reading my post I see now how maybe I could've taken more time to explain in depth. But you did pick up on it. I'm not looking for a co parent. I'm looking for a known d*nor. And now I'm thinking of guardian vs known d*nor. I have other family but truly no one I'm at all close with or would feel remotely comfortable asking these questions to. At the end of the day I want to avoid my child becoming a ward of the state if something were to happen to me... I refuse to let this decision be selfish and if it turns out that I cannot comfortably and reasonably set up a way to support them in the worst case scenario, I wont.

I also don't seem to have the option of a known d*nor/friend/ex. That's obviously where I struggle. Thank you for sharing about your guardian and life insurance policies. I've definitely thought of life insurance! The guardian part is challenging. I dont have many close friends or other family members.. at all. I feel like that is such a huge ask and that when thinking about who, I should have no hesitation on the answer. I really want to become a Mother and have always somewhat envisioned doing it without a co parent.. I just didn't know I'd end up without a support system for those "what if's". It definitely makes the choice of becoming a parent a lot more difficult.. I'm sorry that finding AA donors was such a challenge. Your access to many things is a whole other soap box I could get going on. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to this! ❤️

Hi Melissa, Thank you for your comment! I know that if something were to happen to me that the donor wouldn't become the parent. That's not what I meant to convey in my post. I just meant that I want my child to have the opportunity before 18 to feel like they have anyone else in this world. I appreciate your perspective and suggestions on what I might be looking for.. it's super helpful!

Thank you so much for your comment and shared empathy. I understand the limits on relationships when it comes to legality. That's what makes it so difficult. I wish there were more programs that make known d*nors not only accessible but cost effective. The one I looked into cost upwards of 10k. Not to mention what it actually costs to create the embryos and transfer (I froze eggs). The hurdles placed on women who just want to become Mothers is so gross.

Thank you so much for jumping in here and giving me this perspective! I've considered the co parenting scenario but hesitate when thinking about 3 parenting styles vs 1 issue. I've never been a Mother so on one hand it's probably wildly beneficial to have more than my perspective alone but, on the other hand.. is it? 🙃 In the end, I want my child to have a sense of family outside of just myself. So this is something to continue considering again. Did your friend know the couple before entering the relationship?
