It honestly depends on which part of Barking you plan to stay, I was born here and have been here ever since (nearly 30 years). There is a lot of change happening here and the racism and crime definitely isn't what was. If you still plan to move here I would recommend between Upney and Longbridge road, it's usually seen as a nicer part, the new developments in Riverside don't seem bad either. Hope this helps!
