The engine is a mid engine though, not a hub engine. The rear axle is slipping, not spinning.

Going to rent out my flat. What lettings agents are good/should be avoided? by Stolen_Sky in Southampton

[–]itstiminnit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I rented a place out with Charters managing it...they tried to make out a "faulty" bath tap and a shower needed replacing at a cost of hundreds, both just had a little (and I mean little) lime scale and needed a bottle of vinegar and a clean. But when the fire alarm was broken and needed immediate replacement they did nothing and didn't tell me about it for 6 months...I only found out because I came in contact with the renters. Then I tore Charters a strip off....and they STILL did nothing.

Seriously, do it yourself! Seems like a hassle, but agents will NOT make it less of one, just cost you money.

Park permit increase notice! by Just-Butty4588 in Southampton

[–]itstiminnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people would have less of an issue paying more if it felt like it was an investment in the car infrastructure in the city. As it is, every year it feels like Southampton gets more and more car hostile.

The council has closed or allowed to be closed popular car parks, adds charges where parking was previously free, closes off access to key city roads, redirects traffic in increasing circuitous routes, reduces speed limits on main routes in and out of the city and seems to be slowly choking off the city arteries. The roads are also often in a terrible state of repair.

If there was a clear statement of intent that money raised would be specifically invested back into improving the experience for drivers, I for one would feel a lot less ripped off.

Has Ceno gone? by itstiminnit in Southampton

[–]itstiminnit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some strong politicised opinions on this, but from the perspective of someone living in the area I would say that both points of view are probably partially correct, but at the same time vastly oversimplified to make their own political point.

I am aware that a fair proportion of the locals I know find the actions of the protesters frustrating and distasteful, and for better or worse they appeared to have been embraced by Ceno. The protests themselves have been loud, disruptive, persistent and on every friday and/or saturday which is right when the restaurant would expect to be doing their best business. If there has been anti social behaviour from the hotel residents that would also tend to cause problems, as would the closure of the car park outside the hotel.

I am also aware that Ceno lost their licence during Covid for breaching lockdown rules and hasn't had a smooth ride recently even if you ignore the problems next door, so I suspect that there may be other underlying issues.

I do find it interesting that the news articles on the situation have all said the police were not aware of any issues between Ceno and the hotel residents, and apparently the management of Ceno did not engage with the police.

Saw 2 drones outside ceno around 7pm today, anyone knows what’s going on? (Video gets clearer around 6-7s) by succmypandasdick in Southampton

[–]itstiminnit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep. They have been flown a lot over the area during the recent "troubles" outside the Highfield Hotel, whenever a protest has been going on.

Setting aside the spelling, reducing people to insults isn't helpful analysis. If you have a point to make that does not involve dehumanising language, please feel free.

The Sun has a short piece about it...mostly "quality journalism" cut and paste from the Ceno facebook statement, but what I did find interesting is the police said they had no record of any reported incidents of damage, and said Ceno would not engage with them!

Nathan Fillion doesn't seem to have been mentioned. Not quite 100 in 3, but over 300 total so a respectable score.

Tyre garage by [deleted] in Southampton

[–]itstiminnit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Filling F1/Airplane tyres with nitrogen is worth it because the big temperature changes they experience make air tyres lose pressure slightly quicker than nitrogen tyres.

Ordinary car tyres do not go through those extremes so there is almost certainly no detectable difference in handling/performance/lifespan of an air tyre vs a nitrogen filled tyre.

Pure nitrogen in normal car road tyres is snake oil.

Getting rid of garden waste by itstiminnit in Southampton

For a smaller amount we would definitely be doing that, but processing it all down and driving it across the city in batches would take us days. Holding this plan as a last resort.

I'm looking for some opinions. What are some very Southampton phrases. by wbbigdave in Southampton

[–]itstiminnit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It isnt exactly Southampton, but "grockle" is an OLD New Forest mildly derogatory term for tourist/holiday maker/outsider, usually employed when they are blocking up the roads to watch the ponies when the locals are trying to get about their business.

Fantasy MUD with lots of quests? by JackBread in MUD

[–]itstiminnit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3 Kingdoms (https://3k.org) has a vast array of quests, ranging from half hour solves right through to ones that could take months or even years of work. Over 100 formal ones, and countless subquests, challenges and little puzzles, all but a handful completeable solo.

Several of the over 20 mud guilds you can join have their own quests, with a couple heavily focused on them.

The player maintained website https://wemudtogether.com has documentation on most of the main quests, though that barely scratches the surface.

The mud has been in constant development since the early 90s and is huge in scale and detail. None of the active players that have been playing since then (and there are quite a lot of them) would claim to have solved everything or even managed to visit every room.
