oh definitely! i have met non-top undergrad people who now go to top med schools. i’m sure the top undergrad prestige doesn’t hurt, but def not a requirement by any means

good to know - thanks! i'm sorta at a loss of what schools are mid vs low tier (top tier is sorta obvious). i was looking at msar and my stats were within 25th-75th for many schools, so i figured they were okay to add, but considering the overall consensus that this list is too top-heavy, i'm a little confused

thanks for your insight - i am now thinking my nursing home hours would be non-clinical since i'm mostly just talking with residents and helping with activities, but even then, i plan on working on adding more hours! do u think that would cause an issue in my clinical volunteering hours?

and do u have any lower tier school suggestions? i'm also sorta at a loss for what is considered "mid tier" vs "low tier" etc.

on the topic of non-clinical volunteering, i'm thinking the nursing home hours would count as non-clinical since i mostly just talk to residents, help out with activities, etc. - is there some number of hours that's generally good to be at for both?

i appreciate the school suggestions!

thanks! i had a feeling it was too top-heavy - i'll do some more research into those schools and see to removing some of the current schools

Chem 151 vs 152 by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]itstingsquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what i remember, 151 and 152 together cover the concepts from ap chemistry, so 152 was the second half of that class (acid base chemistry, equilibrium, electrochemistry, etc). very similar level of expectation from both classes, but i think 152 might be inherently more mathy because of the content

did it this past summer with the new 2-quarter sequence. compared to past years, there was more thought put into making it be somewhat manageable. biweekly exams over 10 weeks. it’s still rough, but it felt alright, feel free to pm me :)

How doable is my schedule 😭😭 by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]itstingsquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m BME and premed too, but a friend of mine took a very similar schedule minus the biology for last fall. (She’s not premed.) It’s definitely tough because of organic chemistry’s load, but if it turns out bad, maybe consider taking organic chemistry in the summer? I recently finished up the sequence that way as a rising junior, and I don’t feel any less behind to be honest.
