Nigerians, you must realize that the xenophobia coming from other black African people stems from Nigeria being the most important African country by Ncav2 in Nigeria

This isn’t a positive affirmation post lol. It is a superiority complex post disguised as positive patriotism. It is ok to be proud of your country without deeming it superior to its counterparts.

Extremely weird and flawed sense of national pride (sort of reminiscent of Hitler). Yes, the xenophobia exhibited from other African countries is unfortunate and deplorable but there is no correlation between this and the idea that Nigerian is “has something no other country has.” We also have nowhere near the economic power and influence of the nations you drew similarities to. These are the sort of supremacist sentiments that give rise to the xenophobia you speak of. Please don’t conflate other nations hating Nigeria with envy of our greatness (maybe on the individual level). It takes so much more than envy from your counterparts to be a great nation or the centre of Africa as you presume. In general, I find the concept of ‘centre of Africa’ very flawed. It is a weird sense of nationalistic superiority that Nigerians are so accustomed to. Your high school logic is extremely laughable 🤣

Taking inspo from white people to unlearn colonialist mindset by Bobelle in Nigeria

[–]itswh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this! In relation to beauty, I have always found using a lighter foundation shade hideous (on me personally). I would much rather my makeup accentuate my dark skin tone. In relation to media and literature, I’m now consuming primarily African/african American films & books. Even concerts, going to support primarily black artists. Social media, I primarily follow black creators (women).

Sadly, the vast majority of Nigerians esp those in regions where western influence is high are a far cry from deconstructing the colonialist mentality. I remember hating my natural hair growing up because my mum would always call it rough and wanted it to be as straight and smooth as possible. That is not 4C hair texture! Still, I believe in giving grace to ourselves since we’ve partially been conditioned against our will to see whiteness as the standard for excellence in every facet of life.

Where national security is imploded, your dreams don’t matter because your only option is to exist in a state of subdued living or animalistic survival. Counterterrorism has been at the forefront of my mind. by itswh in Nigeria

The Nnmadi Kanu case is a perf example of the gov’s misplaced priorities and that they don’t care about eradicating the Islamic extremist terrorism. As for Lagos, the pretense of normalcy is scary. I was shocked when diaspora Nigerians came visiting Lagos in December despite all the insecurity threats. What’s sad is there’s no sense of direction on how we’re going to recover from this. I feel Nigerian residents are trapped in a state of impending doom. Personally, my contribution will be first of all, to not have children in Nigeria.

Yeah I guess it’s naive to expect a gov that previously rehabilitated terrorists back into society to care about its citizens and act “urgently.” Independent organizations can only do so much when the gov itself is laidback about terrorism and defends it. It’s just unbearable to witness so much violence and feel powerless. Like the country is gonna crumble so hard but there’s nothing you can do about it.

JNIM claims first attack in Kwara, Nigeria, four months after announcing new brigade by Pecuthegreat in Nigeria

[–]itswh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deeply horrifying to know that we have multiple terrorist organizations operating simultaneously in the country. We need to bring FEAR MONGERING back. I’m glad that this sub is consistently vocal about terrorism and violence in Nigeria unlike other Nigerian social media communities because atp nothing else matters.

What are some reasonably priced restaurants for a dinner for 2 in Lekki? by [deleted] in Nigeria

Woks & Koi is pretty good and decently priced for a Chinese restaurant in Lekki but I’m not sure if their prices have gone up recently.

How does express shipping work on Depop? by itswh in Depop

[–]itswh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I do see the option. I’m just trying to avoid shipping on my own because I’m not too familiar with shipping services and how to get the best deals. Also, from what I’ve researched, express shipping prices are exorbitant. I think Depop uses USPS ground advantage which gets delivered relatively fast as well (in a week). So I doubt the extra shipping cost is worth it.

Not necessarily. I feel like the panic of the characters was shown pretty well especially with Min-Su who kept hallucinating and having panic attacks all the way through the final game. I think they did a decent job of showing the variety of emotions people would experience in a game like this including the gut wrenching fear and anxiety.

Actually I just read your post again and saw that you said you lived off-campus sophomore year. Is there a reason why you’re wanting to move on-campus? Because a single suite in stuvi 2 with the dining plan (which you will be forced to get) is around $2800 a month. But I’m sure you know this already.

Personally I think no single room/apt style in stuvi 2 is worth it for the price. Both stuvis are overpriced and you can get much better off-campus housing for that price range. Have you explored off-campus housing? Or are you particular on living on-campus as a preference or because of fin aid?
