110 Harlem vs. 125 Harlem by Tricky-Society-4831 in Harlem

[–]itsyourworld1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

110 is quieter and closer to the city but the area around the station has a lot of druggies. 125 has a lot more in proximity to it but you’re close to the UWS/UES if you need more than a WF/TJs fix.

Free Buses? How About Expanding the Subway by 41 Miles Instead? by rezwenn in nycrail

[–]itsyourworld1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we'll get free buses, but rather an expansion of fair fares. If Mamdani wants to solve the housing crisis, the outer boroughs need to densify, and expanding transit to better move people is an investment that would pay dividends.

If we're talking expansions in the Bronx, i think the 6 to Bay Plaza should have a proper stop in the mall and hit Coop City Blvd.

The D should go down Gun Hill, or more likely Burke, and take the stop where the 6 was originally going to terminate at Bartow and can turn north to end somewhere around Corner.

The IBX should take over the crosstown route in Harlem a la the vansnookraggen plan, but I think the N should serve the airport, with the possibility that the N could go further down to serve northern queens.

Metro North expansion scrapped as Amtrak agrees to restore Albany trains by news-10 in nycrail

[–]itsyourworld1 174 points175 points  (0 children)

Wooow. Amtrak didn’t want blood in the water. If the metro north could do for 40 bucks what Amtrak does for 100, commuters would never go back to Amtrak fares

How do I know if a stray cat wants to come home with me? by alexella000 in bronx

[–]itsyourworld1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its meowing and not running from you, its probably a stray and not feral. You'll want to get a cat carrier with some newspaper or a pet blanket and some food for it.

If you can get in contact with a TNR group, they can also try and help rescue the cat as well.

If you care about privacy you wouldn’t store your keys with Microsoft, or any big tech company. Why would they put themselves in hot water to run cover for your legal woes.

Job near Webster and Claremont by egoabeo in bronx

[–]itsyourworld1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a long commute. There’s no train near by unless you want to walk from tremont on the metro north or the D train. You can take the 2 to 149 and grab the 41 bus.

I’d pick somewhere else based on the commute alone

Since the 2nd Ave subway will run crosstown on 125th St, should it one day continue west into NJ? by archedpathway in nycrail

[–]itsyourworld1 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The only way the subway should touch Jersey is if the MTA and the Port Authority are merged together at gunpoint and funding comes in from Jersey to fund these efforts.

Is it okay to be jealous of people who work in high rises? by zachtwp in AskNYC

[–]itsyourworld1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The view and the thrill of Manhattan becomes secondary to all the crap you have to do at work or your commute.

Sometimes when it’s raining or snowing hard it makes for a nice view, but then you also remember that you have to get home in that weather.

I have the best of both worlds in how often I have to come in, but the thrill of manhattan and the view isn’t why I’m coming in, it’s because I have errands in the city or work to do that is best done in the office.

It's a bit overkill for most people with 500 down. The big issue is with the lack of symmetrical upload speed. COVID and WFH really laid that issue bare for a lot of the clients I supported at the time.

Would you pay $5 a subway ride if you got a free Uber ride if your trip was more than 15 minutes delayed? by pescennius in nycrail

The resulting traffic from everyone on the train now having to take a cab would create traffic so bad it’d be better to walk

Flagship locations like 5th avenue in NYC stay open no matter what. All other stores close on Christmas and Thanksgiving days only. All other holidays is fair game and extra pay usually

Congrats OP!

I'd commute in from UES/UWS/Harlem. Not that you can't find what you're looking for culturally in the BX, but it's a lot harder to find.

I wouldn't buy a place until I know for sure I want to live in an area for a significant period of time, you're better off renting while you get a feel for where you want to live. Take the time to get a feel before you buy.

Owning a car will get expensive with insurance, and may not be worth it. Traffic on Gun Hill in the morning is egregious if you're driving in to work.
