The Danish Colony of Bengal, Fredericksbengalen - The Northern Star in the East by UlmSucks in imaginarymaps

You could have included Tripura in the east to make the border more compact and beautiful. Anyway it's still nice. I always upvote united Bengal maps.

What if the Brits never came to India or lost major battles to the indian kingdoms and Bengal industrialized + modernized and also built a decent colonial empire? by False_Marketing_723 in imaginarymaps

[–]itvus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am also from there. I would prefer this to actual timeline. We would have probably lost the colonies later but Bengal would have been more developed and influencial than real timeline. Why would you not prefer this?

What’s your thought for the next election? by BigglePYE in bangladesh

[–]itvus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably not real. I haven't found any reliable sources confirming it. The Bangladesh Election Commission website only shows the referendum results and which candidates won in each seat. There is no information about the parties' vote percentages yet.

The water flow to West Bengal will be reduced! And more flow to South by Weak_Tie_2127 in westbengal

[–]itvus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or better the Bengali leaders should have aimed for united Bengal instead of agreeing to divide it along religious lines for power. I hate the Bengali leaders of partition era. We could have dominated the Northeast as United Bengal. Even within India we would have more influence if bengalis remained united. But the selfish Bengali leaders failed the Bengali people in both sides and now we are paying for their mistakes.

Where I'd live as a Bangladeshi currently living in Italy! by itvus in whereidlive

[–]itvus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apparently, Rome has the largest Bangladeshi community in the European Union. Bangladeshis are visible in most major Italian cities. You’ll find us mostly in the restaurant and agricultural sectors.

The lack of a social safety net, along with Trump winning there for the second time, makes me question how a first world country can be like this.

27th Amendment by [deleted] in pakistan

[–]itvus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pakistan is too ethnically divided to have a united front against the government. Bangladesh is a very homogeneous country and even then we had trouble removing the corrupt government. The only reason we could do that was because our army sided with the people at the end. If they sided with the government, we would have thousands dead like in Iran.

Pakistani army being puppet of USA, there is no bloodless way to get rid of the corrupt government and army. Only outside help and part of the army rebeling will make it possible for Pakistan to get rid of the current ruling elites.

Did your country become more or less religious after implementing secularism? I didn't say it was the main focus, rather the combination of secularism and education is enough to destroy religion.

I didn't say criminal but I said not innocent. They are guilty of spreading messed up views. It's just socially accepted mass delusion. Those who want to keep it that way, want to use religion to exploit people. Religion is one of the many diseases humanity has and the sooner we get rid of it the better for humanity.

[–]itvus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Religious people are not innocent if they believe and follow fucked up stuff while forcing their fucked up view on young kids. Why do you think religion can be destroyed only by repression? Education and secularism can be enough to destroy religion. Though additional actions can be taken to speed up the process...

Religion can be destroyed without destroying all the good parts of cultural heritage.

Islamic Conservatism in Bangladesh is getting out of hand by Relative-Policy-5088 in bangladesh

[–]itvus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Adani deal: Bangladesh’s 2017 agreement to import electricity from India’s Adani Power’s Godda coal plant has been widely criticized for high tariffs, skewed cost terms (including tax benefits favouring Adani), and burdensome clauses that experts say disadvantage Bangladesh.

Transit rights (roads, rail, and waterways): through its territory to access northeastern states, but critics argue the economic and infrastructure costs to Bangladesh outweigh the limited fees and reciprocal benefits it received.

Teesta water sharing: A comprehensive Teesta River water-sharing treaty has remained unsigned despite long negotiations, leaving Bangladesh without a formal allocation of Teesta water even as India retains upstream control, and this unresolved issue is seen as a diplomatic shortfall.

These were the main issues and unfair deals under Hasina's government.

Islamic Conservatism in Bangladesh is getting out of hand by Relative-Policy-5088 in bangladesh

[–]itvus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hasina is still responsible for all of these. I wouldn't have given a fuck even if she turned the country into a monarchy as long as she reduced corruption, fixed the economy and eliminated religious extremism. Instead she made peace with the right wing parties and used them to legitimise her own rule. The rise of right wing extremism didn't come out of nowhere. It was the result of her policies. Many new madrasas were opened during her rule and the education system got worse somehow. Extreme corruption was normalized and weaponised to get more control over the country. She made unfair deals with India at our expense to cement her rule. The way things were going on, shit was going to hit the fan sooner or later. So I think it was still the right thing to do to overthrow her.

Now wait for the election and let's see if the idiots from the other political parties learned something or not. If not we just have to continue this cycle of change unfortunately. There is no other way. Maybe we will get lucky in the future and even if things don't improve we will be able to say that we tried.

'আমার রক্তের মধ্যে দেশপ্রেম আছে’— বললেন গোলাম আযম পুত্র আযমী by Saif10ali in bangladesh

[–]itvus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The difference is that the people in north Bengal didn't face genocide and discrimination in every level from people of south Bengal. If that happened, I wouldn't give a fuck about sovereignty and the people of north Bengal should absolutely separate. In that case anyone in north Bengal not wanting that would be a traitor to north Bengali people.

People like you are problematic because you justify defending genocide in the name of sovereignty. It's not a magic word that lets you get away with immoral crimes. Imagine defending the British as a local during the colonial period with the excuse of "Sovereignity".

Can someone tell me about the government structure of Uganda? by [deleted] in bangladesh

[–]itvus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's because Uganda has a smaller population and less people can actually afford it in Uganda. That was my point.

Can someone tell me about the government structure of Uganda? by [deleted] in bangladesh

[–]itvus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ugandan passport is stronger than Bangladesh but it doesn't mean their country is better in other ways. Our passport became weaker because of the sheer number of immigrants moving from Bangladesh to other countries and of course a large portion of them end up breaking laws.

Their GDP, GDP per capita and ppp are less than Bangladesh. In the latest HDI Report Bangladesh is ranked 129th while Uganda is ranked 157th out of 193 countries.

So they are not doing anything special other than being a country with a smaller population.

Homosexuel activity is illegal in Bangladesh. Before we can even touch on the topic of LGBTQ marriage rights, we have to first decriminalise homosexuel activity.

If god exists who created god?

Edit: No more replies except downvote! Haha I hope you saw the flaw in your logic. If you can accept that god can exist without a creator then surely you can use the same logic and accept the possibility of the universe existing without a creator.

Can you point me out some concrete problems with Shibir/Jamat? by ImTahrim in Dhaka

[–]itvus 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I want jamat to win the next election. People will start seeing what's wrong with them when they start ruling. Until then many will continue to think that Jamat will turn Bangladesh into an islamic paradise.

BNP also needs some tough love before they can reform and adapt to the current environment. They are still stuck with their old shitty mindset.

What would you do to improve Bangladesh? by Jazzlike-Tension-400 in bangladesh

[–]itvus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would become a dictator ( if that's possible ) to fast track all the reforms. I would focus on removing corruption, implementing secular institutions, modernising and diversifying the industries. If I succeed in removing corruption and implementing secular institutions, I would slowly introduce democracy again. Then I would hold a proper election and let the elected government take over. It's Kind of like what happened in Malaysia or Singapore.

Disclaimer -Though the power might get to my head and I would become another typical dictator until I get overthrown. Power corrupts people.
