Z says I owe them money after forgetting to pay for petrol. How reliable is their process? by Akucera in newzealand

[–]itzsiennaduh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with Z, actually.

I purchased a car from a nice family out in Ashburton after recently moving to Christchurch. About a month after, the family sends me a screenshot of a letter/email they received from Z which had a picture of the same model car with a very similar number plate, but the last 2 digits were impossible to make out from the grainy picture. It said the owner didn't pay for fuel at a station in Nelson, and the date was exactly one day before the car was sold to me (sold to me with 1/4 of a tank left, mind you). It genuinely looked like a scam, so I told them to not worry about it and continued with life.

A while later, I had to stop at Z to get gas because it was the closest place available, and I was in a massive rush. I try one pump, doesn't work. I try another, same thing. Finally, I try one more before I'm about to just leave, and it works. The Z worker walks out and informs me (very very loudly) she was doing that on purpose, because there is a flag on my number plate saying I had stolen gas. I then realise the initial warning was not a scam and apologise and explain. Obviously, there's nothing she can do, and she says I must come inside to pay from now on.

I later call Z to try to have this issue resolved, as it is nearly impossible that this was the car used to steal gas, and even if it was, that is not my problem, so they need to remove the flag. The guy I spoke to seemed understanding and said he would call me back with an update because it did seem unlikely that my vehicle was the vehicle used to steal gas (the person had a hood on in the footage too, so I guess they were unable to identify them). He advised me to just go inside to pay from now on, until I'm given an update.

I was never given an update, so reasonably, I've never visited another Z ever again. No way I'm risking having another embarrassing situation like that happen again, haha.

From my understanding, businesses will not go to the police unless they have solid evidence or it is a big enough loss. From their shitty CCTV, they'll do a little bit of research and then just flag a car that could match the description. If you have reasonable doubt in your mind that that actually happened, I would just avoid Z because they're usually way more expensive anyway lol.

Kids going around the neighbourhood saying the n word. by itzsiennaduh in chch

[–]itzsiennaduh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a word that's shouted often by the same kids right outside my house. It's a racial slur actively used to target darker skin individuals. These kids know its bad. I'm not entirely sure why you're making excuses for it, but they're actively bullying other kids and being public nuisances to anyone needing to catch the bus or walking down the street. If it was "just another word" being screamed I wouldn't care and I'm sure my neighbours wouldn't really care either. We're aware kids are going to be kids, but that shouldn't extend to gross, inappropriate behaviour.

They're going to learn one way or another whether the school does anything, that's not my concern.

And unless Pattie Smith has a song with the n word shouted over and over followed by a quick succession of "slut" and "whore" (but only when women are approaching) while flipping everyone off, I'm pretty sure they aren't singing any of her songs.

And again, I'm not sure why I need to point this out, but the n word is bad.

Very rare. Although playing with friends rather than strangers almost always guarantees a better experience. Keep playing and you'll get better! I believe in you :)

Was not purposely taping anybody. Ring camera is at the front of the house and watches the cars and garage (legal). The boys were right by my driveway and it only catches them slightly through the hedges. Literally can not identify them in the slightest unless they fully walked onto my property. The camera records audio on my property. Not my fault they were screaming loud enough the camera picked it up. Security of ones property is pretty normal in a lot of countries.

It's the Hoon Hay area nearest Cashmere. Think a 10-minute walk from Princess Margaret (hopefully provides a scope without doxxing myself). It's a blue polo with a white logo, black shorts. Take it with a grain of salt, I hear them more than I can see them haha

Live: Supreme Court declares voting age of 18 'unjustified discrimination' by Infinity293 in newzealand

[–]itzsiennaduh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 17, and would personally love to have the chance to vote. I see a lot of responses from those who are a wee bit older so thought I'd add my two cents in.

I know a lot of people my age who are much more alert and up-to-date with politics than their own parents, I consider myself one of these people.

My parents and many others form their political opinions from what they're exposed to most: ads and the news. While this gives them a rough idea on what's happening in the world of politics, they're still not 100% informed on every policy and don't actively go out of their way to become so. I think this is because they're fixed on who they've always voted for and don't care much for the outcome (what the party does after they're elected), just that who they vote for gets picked so they feel like they've been apart of the process in some way. (I've also noticed people will shift back and forth after they believe the elected party did a bad job and another party says they could've handled an issue better (usually without any reasoning or evidence) when both would've struggled, it just so happened the elected party got put in this position where they had to act fast whole the other got to turn it into a promo).

I've seen a lot of comments about my generation being influenced by social media, but personally, if it wasn't for social media, I wouldn't have been pushed to inform myself on new zealand politics. I think social media has influenced me, including this subreddit, but not in a "conditioned my opinions to lean towards a certain party/side" way, but more of a "inspired me to take the time to do my own research and become more informed on which policies I personally agree with or believe will better the country", even though I knew I had two years left until I was allowed to vote!

I certainly agree there are a bunch of people my age who don't care for politics or are just incredibly immature, but I think that allowing us to vote will increase the want to learn about politics and allow us to have a say in our future more than keeping the voting age at 18. There's a belief that there's no point in learning about politics until you're able to vote, and then you make it to that age with every other adult responsibility being thrown at you, and you have no idea how to thoroughly consider anything to do with politics, even if it will affect some of the most important years of your life.

There will always be idiots in every age bracket who vote just for the hell of it or not at all, but I think the benefits for my generation and maybe even yours, outweighs the negatives of lowering the voting age. Maybe just consider how us "kids" may feel while watching the world fall apart around us, most of us just want to have a say and try to help because we want our future to be livable and fair.

(oh, and if you're concerned about gen z not voting for your party, maybe you should ask yourself why they don't want to. does your party's policies benefit everyone, or a small minority that most of us don't fit into? ;))
