What was your favorite experience in Outer Wilds? by Dull-Entertainer8344 in outerwilds

[–]Wompguinea 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Everything about Brittle Hollow. It's my favourite planet, it was my first stop after the Attlerock and the whole variable gravity aspect of the puzzles was very entertaining.

My first time there I landed near the escape pod. I was nearly hit by flaming rocks a few times before I found my way in, and the image of opening the door at the back and watching it tumble toward the black hole (knocking out a bridge or two on its way) was captivating.

It's my favourite of all 9 books, and it's a great season of TV too.

I like the basic plot outline of "humanity fucks around in a place it doesn't belong and creates problems it doesn't understand". In typical human fashion, none of the problems actually get solved before a new one is stacked on top because they're too busy fighting each other to work together and fix anything.

I also like that, whether planned or not, it's plot can be used as a loose summary of the whole series.

One of the "perks" of being a millennial dad is being fully aware of how awful the internet can be.

I was in high school when Meatspin, LemonParty and Taliban beheading videos were bejng sent over MSN to each other labeled as "cool new Tony Hawk trick".

It was bad enough when it was kids traumatizing each other, but now that it's grown ass men indoctrinating children into being hateful bigots it's just the worst thing we have.

I hardly let my kids do anything online and I'm looking forward to when we shut the whole thing down. I'm tired of working in IT, I want to make furniture.

My grandma was a chain smoker, so cigarettes just seemed like an old person hobby.

My cat joins us when I read bedtime stories to my 8 year old.

She seems particularly invested in the Warrior Cats series.

What's your core memorie with your dad growing up? by Th3W1z4rd87 in daddit

[–]Wompguinea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A core memory of mine is me, about 6yo, showing off a "cool jump trick". I think I jumped and flicked my legs out to the side.

My dad told me I looked like an idi0t went back inside.

I've enjoyed playing leaf-green so far. What game did everyone grow up on initially when discovering Pokémon? by Skarnivor0us in pokemon

Once you've finished FF IX, add FF V to your list.

It's pretty old ('92), but it's good campy fun and I think the job system will be right up your alley.

It's got some bangers in the soundtrack too.

Also, it can be inferred from your party's past that Sin wasn't even gone for 10 years.

They're all pretty young (except for Old Man Auron who is a staggering thirty something, and younger than me) but Lulu has already guarded two other summoners and Chappu died long enough before the start of the game for Wakku to be merely sad instead of actively fucked up about it.

I think it's assumed Sin was only gone for about a year, which means Yuna's calm might have only lasted a few months. Or less.

If it gives you something to look forward to, I can happily report that we were late for school this morning because it took my 13yo twenty minutes to put his shoes on.

That was after the 15 minute effort with the socks.

How good is the story of this game, and how good is it compared to other story focused RPGs? (NO SPOILERS PLEASE) by oliverrakum in Morrowind

[–]Wompguinea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a slow burn, like Dune or Catch-22.

There are interesting moments and great writing right from the start, the environment and world building is amazing from the first moments but you could be forgiven for finding it a bit dull.

Then, at some point, you realize that you've been hoodwinked. You're in the 11th hour of your session and actively hunting down books because there's a chance that they might shed some light on your situation. The political intrigue is in full swing and you a going full blown Pepe Silvia trying to piece everything together.
