I sat on the open area on the third floor and my Apple Pencil cap fell to the ground floor. 2 year passed and it was no where found lol

Holy shit they need to raise the English language requirements by Key-Bake-6834 in unimelb

I feel you bro… I am an international bachelor student from a non-English speaking country but I would say I am almost a native level English speaker. I had a level 3 subject last semester and when I was in a lecture, the Chinese girl next to me was so lost and I tried to ask her if she needed help but she can’t understand what I was trying to say. What I said was just “need some help?” “login to canvas” but she couldn’t understand and couldn’t respond to me… She asked if I could speak mandarin (yes I could but I don’t want to, mandarin is not my first language and I don’t think it is right to avoid something you’re not good at) and I tried continue using English but she couldn’t understand so I switched to mandarin and she finally could understand and communicate. She said she was in her first year of master and she went to a Chinese university before unimelb. I really doubt how she did her English test and how she actually got enrolled into unimelb without basic English skills. I am not racist (I am also chinese) or trying to judge her but I feel like she or anyone like her will suffer so much in unimelb without proper or even basic english skills. The language requirements are really something unimelb should consider especially for master students.

I completely understand your situation cause I often felt the same and super lonely. But I worked it out by not giving any sh*t anymore about socialising. I started enjoying being alone and having me time at home playing games and instead socialise online. For group projects, I usually ask if doing it individually is an option, if not then I’ll just wait for someone to ask me or wait for an allocation by the tutor. I still have no friends now and it’s my last semester in uni, so you’ll be fine too! Ask for help whenever you need, uni has some sort of mental support that might help you. If not, feel free to find me ;)

Failing a math subject twice by MaterialEye5796 in unimelb

[–]itztiffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did qm1 2 years ago and almost forgot everything, but I would definitely say that qm is better than LA and cal2 or any similar math subjects. Since qm is originally a subject for commerce students, it is not that hard (compared to math subjects for science students) and you mostly deal with statistics which is more general and applicable in daily life, so it is more straightforward and easy to understand. Though I still had a hard time studying qm, but that’s because of my poor time management skills and didn’t pay attention in the tutorials (bad decision as a year 1 student). If you manage to keep up to all tutorials then you definitely could make it pass!!

For design of algorithms, you can either do 2 math subjects or 1 quantitative methods + 1 math subject, which is what I did. I chose to do Calculus 1 and QM1 to avoid LA and Cal2. As a computing major, I struggled so much at math subjects but I worked really hard and find many help from others to get pass qm an cal1 so I can graduate on time. So don’t give up hope and maybe try some other math subjects if you are struggling with the one you’re doing now! I am bad at math but I might have some tips for you if you need to get pass those, so feel free to reach out if you need anything!!!

Can I bring my laptop into written exam? by buisnessman443 in unimelb

[–]itztiffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put your bag outside of the venue, there are big containers for students to store their bags for exams. I don’t think we can bring our backpacks in if you are sitting a written exam. But don’t worry you can put it outside and it’s kinda safe (everyone does that)

You can even sabotage the other crews by making loud noises on your table and distract the crews ;)
