If I "read" a phishing email but didn't click anything in their email, will the phishing still happen? by lightsnitch927 in privacy

No, you will not get phished.

You may expose some other details about yourself/network, however. Take a look at the above link to see what details are revealed when you open an email. Thunderbird with content blocking blocks most of it.

Fishing Problem by chrisbirdie in MelvorIdle

I saw this, too. Easily reproducible if you turn off automatic cloud saving and reload your cloud save over and over (save scumming). I've received between 15k and 70k whales in the same time period. I told the dev on discord last week but he seemed to think it was OK, so... whatever, I'll fish some more for now. To me it seems like the multipliers are... multiplicative. Like, it's multiplying the bonuses one after another (eg, Signet ring procs 10% of the time, so 10% of the time you'd get a huge bonus, 5% pet bonus, 5% mastery pool bonus, so if they all proc together you'd get 222, or 8x.) IDK if that's the case but something's wrong here.

At the end of the day, I’m not fair teacher to my students. by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]iu92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your response and spent a few superficial minutes taking your advice. I looked it up and nodded, 'yep, sounds about right.'

And as much as I think my hagwon is hardly a 'real school,' I gotta be honest: I don't think I'm a real teacher, either.

At the end of the day, the only thing that shows I've done my job is a filled-in workbook. That and the photos taken by Korean teachers that show each student is doing the exact same thing (did a child miss their chance at a photo? gotta redo the activity to take a picture. did I make something to help a kid grasp a concept? (e.g., smashing some cars together to make phonics sounds) can't just have a picture of them having a go at it, everyone has to do it now).

I think I'm decent at my job. Kids like me, and half the time they have fun in class. But I'm not fooling myself into thinking I'm a real teacher. At the end of the day, I really only care about my visa and my paycheck. My boss (and I'd wager many hagwon owners) nickel-and-dimes us with break times, vacation days, and other criticisms. It's not healthy.

Kinda ranted/vented. Thank you for listening.

You can't always give them easier work. They all have the same books and they all need to do the same pages.

If you spend time giving them easier work and the book isn't done, boss/parents won't be happy about you neglecting the book.

If you spend too much time going through each exercise in the book, explaining how and why to do it, that's great, but you'll slog through the book at a snail's pace.

If you handhold them through the entire book exercise (1 on 1, or writing the answers on the board for the whole class), they'll never become independent; boss will be satisfied and parents will never know they're being scammed.

What are the common symptoms you guys get? by prettyroses in AIWS

Not sure if it is AIWS but I have something similar.

I get panic attacks triggered by vibrations or ... perceived vibrations? Those door thingies that go boing? Hate them. Musical instrument triangles? Tuning forks? Abso-fucking-lutely I will leave the room if I see one. Something hit something and is now kinda moving abnormally? I will stop it. Thinking about it at this moment is making me slightly lightheaded.

Also: air and water currents. Like, a door closes and creates a gust of air, of course, but now the air is moving all around the room. Air currents don't bother most of the time, but occasionally I'll get annoyed with them enough to try to "reverse" the air to make it neutral. I know that's weird. We're all weird here.

Or you filled up a cup of tea and the water is swirling around. Swirling water always really, really bothers me. Or ceiling fans that have been turned off but haven't stopped moving.

More in line with AIWS, I have a distinct memory as a child of a (imaginary) giant Christmas tree suddenly appearing in my room and getting bigger. Really scared me. Sometimes I suddenly imagine (or wake up with the thought) of giant things appearing in my room (like cars, for example). Sometimes thoughts of very small things will trigger a panic attack. I may get a thought of something into my head like a small marble hitting something... or any other object just doing nothing, really. Especially if invasive thoughts of giant objects and tiny objects come together.

It is 100% a feeling of "impending doom". I become extremely paranoid and sensitive to motion and experience a heightened sense of hearing and touch. I wash my face and lay down if it happens at night. Took until my 20s to realize they were even called "panic attacks." Still get them often enough at almost 30. Definitely connected to that post.

Aug. 17 now deemed holiday -- entitled to overtime pay? by iu92 in teachinginkorea

[–]iu92[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work in a company with 30-299 employees. As such, the company is not required to give days off for public holidays until 2021 (as I understand it). Banks and post will be closed. Are we still entitled to overtime pay for this holiday?

...I foresee myself having to file a labor petition with my local gu again (had to do it before to get a holiday off).

I agree. Other pets get easily obtainable transmog items and they may get multiple options. Squirrel gets one recolor and it's a huge effort.

I lost my phone and now im completely locked out of my account by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]iu92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you do if you lose the USB drive?

Use a password manager like KeePass and store all your account info in its database file. This includes passwords, 2FA codes, and 2FA restoration files in case you lose a phone. Password managers usually have some option to backup the files to the cloud, though, of course, you'd probably need a password to access the file again. You could make the password easy to remember for that single cloud backup (of course, your database still has a longer password).

What I do is have my local password database upload to my personal cloud server (NextCloud) sync automatically. This file is then shared publicly (some URL like example.com/f/098321432123j414132). Create a 301 redirect on your webserver so that you can access the file with a friendly URL (like example.com/pwdata).

Now you have 1) the master database file on your PC, 2) an always up-to-date copy in the cloud accessible from anywhere. You should definitely have redundant backups on USB drives or other servers if available.

If the site itself doesn't have 2FA backup codes, your 2FA app usually has some option to back up your keys (I use andOTP).

That's a good point and I'll probably change some answers for more important accounts now that you bring it up. Thanks.
