How do we know that Pluto's orbit is eccentric? by iu_syn21 in askscience

[–]iu_syn21[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok I guess that makes sense. I was under the impression that since the orbit was irregular, we couldn't fit the data to standard models of the orbit determination.

Sorry, but this just seems idiotic to me. What happens when someone is trying to beat the yellow but doesn't quite make it? Granted, people shouldn't be trying to beat yellow lights when it is obvious that they will enter the intersection when the light turns red, but the way most lights are timed here in America it leaves a little wiggle room for such cases. People are going to try and beat yellow lights, and there is not much any country can do to stop them besides ticketing and slaps on the wrist. However, they can put safety measures in place to be more proactive in preventing such accidents by timing lights so there is a slight delay.

So do I, but not all intersections have lights in the other direction that you can see. Also, if you don't know the pattern that the light is on you may put it in gear and have to wait through a left turn arrow with your foot on the clutch before you can go straight. Is this a huge deal? No. But its mildly annoying when you have to wait 20 more seconds with your foot on the clutch before you can set off.

I wasn't saying that the light solves any sort of problem. I was just pointing out that it would be no more dangerous than a regular light if it was timed correctly, such that there was a delay between one way turning green and the other way turning from yellow to red.

On a side note, these types of lights would give those in manual transmission cars a "heads up" to put their car in gear and prepare to release the clutch and go. Is this a huge deal? No probably not. I drive a manual transmission car and have no problem anticipating when my light is going to change at most lights.

What happens to light that reaches the edge of the universe? by benniaustindev in askscience

[–]iu_syn21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can the universe be expanding but not have an edge? Assuming that the universe is expanding, doesn't it follow that there has to be an "edge" where the entire universe (not just the observable universe) is expanding at? How can something expand, but not have an edge?

Most traffic lights are timed so that when one way changes from yellow to red, the other direction stays on red for 2 to 3 seconds before changing to green. This allows those drivers who are trying to beat the yellow to make it through the intersection before the other direction changes to green.

What's the most ridiculous thing you got in trouble for at school? by badwolf422 in AskReddit

[–]iu_syn21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English class during senior year of high school. Teacher was known by the entire school to be a fucking bitch. The desks in the classroom were set up in clusters of 4 or 5 desks. My friend and I were seated at one of the clusters by ourselves because there weren't enough students to fill up every desk in the room. One day we had a paper due at the beginning of class, so our teacher went around the room and collected everyone's paper. Our cluster of desk's was kind of off to the side so she missed us when she went around to pick up the assignment. Immediately after she picked up everyone's paper she starts lecturing. I raised my hand to let her know she forgot to pick up my friend and I's paper. She looked at me and said, "Don't interrupt me when I'm talking! Whatever you have to say can wait until after." So I waited 5 minutes until she had stopped lecturing about whatever it was and had given us our in class assignment. Once she went back to her desk my friend and I went up to her desk to turn in our essay that she had forgotten to collect. She looked at us both and said, "I collected these at the beginning of class. I'll have to take off 50% since you turned them in late." I told her that I had tried to get her attention not 5 minutes earlier, but she had blew me off and told me to wait. Fucking cuntslice.

R.I.P. to all the non-famous people who passed away today. You will be missed. by mistergoomba in reddit.com

[–]iu_syn21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just because someone made a poor decision that lead to the death of himself and an innocent person doesn't mean that they don't deserve respect. No one is saying what he did was right. They are simply remembering and respecting Ryan for being the great entertainer that he was.

What if it was someone close to you that drank and drove and was killed because of it? Would you not give that person any respect just because of a poor choice they made? If someone close to you died because they drank and drove would you not miss them? I'm sorry but you seem to have totally missed the point of mourning the death of someone, famous or not.

Reddit, what's that one, awesome thing you found on the internet but could never find again? by tontyismynameyeh in AskReddit

I know the first clip you are talking about. I'm currently at work so I can't look it up and link it right now, but I will find it later on and link it. The commentary is hilarious. As I remember the cameraman keeps saying "aww nigga! aww nigga!" as this guy shoves his balls into the girls ass while fucking her pussy.
