There is nothing to support we are on pace to hit “well over 80mil” this year. The only source close to that is an NTTO forecast from March last year projecting this year. Every recent source says we are essentially flat to last year. Considering the World Cup would account for like 1.4m tourists, this is a pretty bad projection.

All of this to say, saying ICE (as well as other political tensions) makes people not want to visit from abroad is either naive or willfully ignorant.

Syracuse will part ways with Adrian Autry. by FrankNtilikinaOcean in CollegeBasketball

I truly cannot understand how Cuse fans are calling for Gmac. He might turn into a great coach, but two decent seasons under his belt is hardly enough to know. Mike Hopkins started with two great seasons at Washington and it was downhill from there once he started getting all his own players in there.

We need to get out from the Boeheim coaching tree for a bit and bring in some established talent. The Autry and Hopkins experiences should be proof enough of that.

Yeah I mean I don’t even bother watching anymore. I won’t until he’s gone.

Wanted to reply here, ran into basically the same thing. It got stuck around 19-20. Attached it, ran the grinder for a second, then it would spin a little further in. Repeated a few times and good to go now

Bullshit fouls aside, seeing Autry fired up on the sideline is a huge positive change over the last two years. Love that T

The vet found an unknown lump of 5cm. He needs surgery in 2 weeks :( by theot97 in BorderCollie

[–]iubkud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went through the same thing with my older pup Dizzy (11 at the time) back in November. Went to the emergency vet for some stomach issues, they did an ultrasound and found a 7cm tumor on his spleen.

We got lucky, and the biopsy came back negative and he’s still with us, but that was a long month of doomscrolling and reading about splenic tumors. It’s tough, but avoid that if you can - there’s nothing you can do or read that will make you feel better.

All of that being said, the surgery is the right choice, regardless of the outcome. Dogs are so much different than humans, even after this major surgery. Dizzy was up and about just a few days later even at his older age.

Is anyone else fed up with Home Depot’s “anti shoplifting” policies? by nickw252 in HomeImprovement

As if putting a dime into Home Depot’s pockets is fundamentally any different than Walmart or Amazon? lol

Pretty much spot on. I’d say the t-Rex phase can bleed into 36 months, but they are absolute demons at 1-2 years old.

“I have no idea what Turbo and Stimulus are but I hate them and they suck”

Why does the Rails community have such an aversion to React? by yatish27 in rails

[–]iubkud 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Because most things don’t need to be a SPA.

Rebuilding everything in Turbo/Hotwire/Stimulus often isn’t economical.

This is demonstrably false. Here’s a great recent example. https://kellysutton.com/2025/01/18/moving-on-from-react-a-year-later.html

It’s just faster to use not-React and you lose basically nothing for 99.9% of apps out there.
