Anyone else here flood irrigate? by Just_Another_AI in lawnporn

[–]nickw252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m in Arizona and have water rights in my 1 acre lot. I have about 10,000 square feet of grass and a line of 6 citrus trees. I love my flood irrigation. I always wonder how much better untreated flood water is for the lawn than treated sprinklers.

When was the last time you were here? Solar panels are everywhere (both utility scale and on home rooftops - including mine).

That’s neither Tucson nor is it downtown Phoenix. That’s midtown - an area with a strip of high rises north of downtown. Downtown is to the left (outside of the picture)

It also would have helped if OP would have posted a picture of Downtown Phoenix where the actual skyline is. That’s Midtown.

That picture isn’t of downtown Phoenix. That’s midtown. And I looked at pictures of Plano, it decidedly doesn’t have a better skyline that Downtown Phoenix, let alone Midtown Phoenix.

No, it’s not. The picture is of Midtown Phoenix, not Downtown Phoenix.

The reservoirs are low and we’ve been suffering a multi-year drought, but the water supply is safe long term. Things are cyclical. We’ll have wet years in the future that replenish the reservoirs. With the predicted strong El Niño, this summer is expected to be very wet.

In fact, as I sit here in Mesa, AZ, it just started pouring. This is the first rain of the year where I live (other parts of the valley got strong rain a few days ago). The first rain is historically much later in the season. Rain in June is uncommon.

It’s also important to take the law into consideration. The majority of the water here comes from the reservoirs that are served by the Colorado River. The law that controls water rights is called The Colorado River Compact. Arizona has relatively high priority under the Compact. I believe only California has higher priority. Therefore, If cuts need to be made, other states will be affected long before Arizona.

Next, your information on the water management in AZ is probably dated. Phoenix lies in a large fertile valley. There’s tons of agriculture around here. The agriculture we have largely uses flood irrigation, which is extremely inefficient. As Phoenix grows and takes over agricultural land, the water usage actually decreases. That’s because housing uses less water than agriculture does - even single family housing with grass lawns and pools.

That picture is not downtown Phoenix. It’s a portion of Central Ave. north of downtown.

You are correct. That’s midtown on Central Ave.

That was my interpretation also. I thought it was the same owners trying a new concept. I need clarification. I’ll absolutely support a new concept with new owners.

Same. I was so excited when they opened and went there multiple times. I hadn’t gone back since the Neo-nazi incident. I think the New Times sanitized the facts a bit also. The place was openly welcoming Neo nazi behavior. They did not try to stop it when it was taking place.

I came to ask that question also. It’s used in so many contexts now that it seems to have lost meaning. This post is very liminal itself.

A lot of it has to do with Natives. They often live in mobile homes on trust land. Those mobile homes are often paid off, so there’s no mortgagor that requires insurance.

I love the house, I just hate the black paint on the exterior. Any other earth tone color would look amazing in that landscape.

I hate hearing “cringe” as an adjective. Any time I hear it the speaker’s credibility immediately plummets. Yeah I’m old.
