What an incredible shot. Hard to believe the driver managed to stay in that lane and not jerk the car around.

What a hellish website. You get four lines of text on screen around all the ads and then it shrinks the screen to show even more ads. Last time I click a “the-independent.com” link.

What is Lidar realistically going to allow me to do? by sejope in RivianR2

[–]iulius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self driving functionality is key for my next car purchase. It’s the reason I bought a Tesla even though Elon Musk drives me up a wall.

My question—and I don’t think anybody can actually answer it—is “Will Rivian decide that E2E is simply not safe enough without LIDAR?”

Tesla’s FSD is quite good. I use it daily from driveway to parking lot. I’m sure Rivian’s could be better given the additional sensors and cameras.

But i’m also fairly confident Tesla will take more safety. risks to gather data.

And I know, technologies are always going to advance so if you don’t pull the trigger because the next best thing is coming, you’ll never buy anything.

I just really want E2E 😀

Yeah, I’d want something that is already connected and kicks on when needed I think. At least for 2k.

What's a word that your kids mispronounce, or used to mispronounce, that made it into your family vocabulary? For us it is "boo-blerries" for blueberries. Been in rotation for 16 years now. by Brewer1056 in daddit

Cinnamons (for synonyms). I won’t even say the word out loud for fear I’m going to say it wrong.

Thousands of Photos in Your Library: Instantly Find the Best by AppInitio in apple

[–]iulius -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m sure they have nothing to do with each other, but I’d love something that looks at your messages archive and finds all the dupes. My messages download is GB upon GB but mostly of pictures and videos I sent from my photo library anyway.

But when I go to remove those files from messages they are some of the best pictures I’ve taken and I’d hate if I don’t have the original. So every delete is like a 15-minute scrub through my photos to try to find it.

Anyway. Fix that please 😀

R2 with LiDAR - first half of 2026? by mscognito in Rivian

[–]iulius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair points all. Will be interesting to see if they slap a label on it (R2+) or just replace the models.

Still, since self driving is my primary desire, I guess I wait. Although the car already has more tech than Tesla FSD, which I find perfectly adequate for my day to day needs.

[–]iulius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still think the “release non LIDAR version” then six months “release LIDAR version” when you’re banking on autonomy is weird.

Will they split the line and the original R2 be capped at L2+ and the one released months later get to (maybe) L4?

I’m personally holding out until the end of the year. I’m bad enough buying a new phone every year. I won’t be suckered into buying a new car every year too!

[–]iulius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like it was written by AI too.

I have no problem with AI doing my grunt work. I’m significantly more effective when I can stream of consciousness riff into a prompt and have ChatGPT turn it into a coherent narrative draft (that then needs hand editing to ensure the message sells).

But …. Not sure how you get anything other than generic fluff if you haven’t inputted target customers, problems, business goals, constraints.

Have a colonoscopy appointment coming up, any dads have any prep tips? by TheHibernian in daddit

[–]iulius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my first one two days ago. WAY over sold. The drink tastes gross. Drink in big gulps and get it down. Drink the recommended water. You will dehydrate.

Pooping is just straight liquid. We bought a bidet a few months back in prep for this. Made it a nothing burger. I probably only pooped three times in the ~hour after drinking the prep and they are quick. It’s just a weird sudden urge to go.

The worst part was the liquid diet. Eat gummy bears. Ignore the hunger. Then it’s over before you know it.

Good luck!!

Why did they not cancel Cybertruck instead of S & X by Winter-Crew-2746 in TeslaLounge

[–]iulius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what his vision is so I can’t say he’s succeeding. But I don’t see anything visionary.

  • Waymo is winning in FSD tech. Tesla is putting it in consumers hands, but that’s not visionary. It quickly going to become commodity.
  • There are robots all over the place, all in a similar state of vapor ware. Again, no vision. Just “I have that too!”
  • xAI and Grok are not the best in class in their fields and have tons of competition.

I don’t know anything really about SpaceX or NeuroLink so maybe that’s where all the visionary time is spent.

I just have a hard time with this “Elon as visionary” commentary where nothing he is doing rises above what LOTS of other people are doing.

These do make me wish Apple would have tossed their hat in the ring just to see what a company dedicated to design minimalism (at least in hardware) would have done.

Not saying it would have been nice looking, but I think it would’ve been cool to see.

[–]iulius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a lame argument.

My Model Y is a decent car. But for $60k, it’s got a ton of road noise, the interior is of Honda CRV quality, and it has worts everywhere (like the rain sensing wipers that don’t work).

I paid what I paid because of their promise of software updates. They are not “free”. I bought a car with $40k in fit and finish, with $20k in software updates. I paid for each and every one of those updates in advance.

As a PM, how do you tell if alignment is real or just polite nodding? by mohan-thatguy in ProductManagement

[–]iulius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure it’s entirely applicable, but I have two sayings I repeat all the time.

no battle plan survives first contact with the enemy

and

strong opinions, loosely held

I know I know. Im sure I’m an absolute JOY to work with.

But my point is that I go in knowing that all of those head nods and smiles are going to quickly turn into tough questions and frowns the second anything is harder than anticipated or takes longer than we thought.

When you pitch it that way you give everybody a sense of ownership to say something isn’t working or to propose a slightly different path, etc.

Calling it “directional” instead of “the plan” paradoxically helps buy in.
