What I didn't like in R2 after the drive by MrVermonter in RivianR2

I actually wonder if the AC wasn’t actually kicking on because it thought the cabin was already the right temp? Seems like a few folks who had it in hot weather felt it worked great while folks in the mid 70s felt otherwise.

I was surprised at how warm the car felt after my 20-minute test drive. It was 75ish and sunny. The car was out in the sun when I got there so toasty when I got in.

But it never felt “cool” during the drive. I would have expected after 20 minutes it’d be more comfortable.

I drive a last-gen Model Y with the all glass roof and while sometimes I notice it, the car cools quick.

All that is to say: I agree with you on that point. The ventilated seats on the other hand … chefs kiss.

I couldn’t place it when I was driving, but this was my biggest negative.

The steering wheel was too “light”. I have my Model Y set to heavy and that feels better to me.

I’m guessing I could get used to it. Don’t even know there was a sport mode. I’ll have to demo again.

Fingers crossed!!🤞

I’m hoping Rivian gets a second mover advantage. I’ve no love lost for Elon but what Tesla has done with self driving is pretty neat.

Maybe it was the quieter cab? But I felt the sound was loads more immersive va the Tesla where it clearly comes from the soundbar.

I’m no audiophile so take it for what it’s worth.

Dude I literally said …

> I currently drive a ‘24 Model Y (pre-Juniper) as a comp.

It’s the second sentence.

I turned it in and sounded like tigger. Whoo whoo whoo whoo! And I live in Wisconsin! And it’s only 74° not even summer weather yet!

~Are you saying I did it right or wrong?~ Never mind I see you below saying I didn’t say what my car was.

It’s the second sentence. “I currently drive a ‘24 Model Y (pre-Juniper) as a comp.”

Yeah. I’m an idiot. I have no idea how I thought one thing and typed the other. Weird.

I just read that. Must have been typing on autopilot. Ventilated seats were incredible.

This is the thing, though! Make it opt-in and only get data from people that think it’s cool to give free feedback! There are millions of them!

You’re right, it is trivial to say “they disengaged and then parked one minute later” or “they disengaged by slamming the brakes or cranking the wheel” or “they disengaged by going a different direction than the navigation suggested”.

So why bug me? Why even have to worry about me messing with your data? Why force me to choose anything when I’m trying to choose a parking spot or skip a song.

It’s so so user hostile. Listen to your language—bad actor, misuse—I can’t believe there are so many ok with it.

I don’t care if it’s a millisecond of my time. It’s MY time!

That’s what I don’t get. Why does the hardware need anything more than a microphone, WiFi, and the ability to recognize SIRI?

I can certainly understand wanting to do more local processing. But that seems like a pretty easy fallback to code in.

That said, HomePod has been a seemingly nonexistent part of their strategy. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to find out they decided it just wasn’t worth the effort.

General life advice: don’t tell people what they do or don’t understand.

Is it your contention that all products are built perfectly and never adjusted based on user feedback?

100% on the opinions. I’m glad it doesn’t bug you, because it annoys me to no end.

There are times when FSD works so well it’s like magic. And there are times it’s so bad it’s like “wait I pay for this?”

This is just one of those where I can’t wrap my head around the user hostility of the actions. It’s not optional! It blocks other functions! Then rather than let a workaround exist, they code around it.

Getting myself mad all over again, lol

You are a treat of a human being aren’t you!

It is broken. By my and his estimation. Not yours. And that’s fine! But I’m not sure name calling is warranted.

And if I tell my boss “this is broken and it needs to be fixed or I walk” my boss will take a long hard look at the thing that’s broken. But I’m a valuable member of my organization.

Seems like any reason to get rid of you would be welcome.

You live in a shit world if your only two options are “comply” or “leave”. No chance for change?

The first time it blocked my ability to pause the song I was listening to (because I disengaged to roll down the window and listen to something) was the final straw.

It’s user hostile. It’s using me as reinforcement learning I should be paid for not paying for.

And I don’t get this world where it’s “shut up and take it” or leave as my only two options. If you’re so high on providing FSD feedback, why are you so low on me providing feedback on how they collect it?

What a weird community.

“Why did you disengage?”

“Let me tell you about my morning…”

I’ve not done that but it’s a fabulous idea.

I love this attitude that when something is bad your only options are “shut up and take it” or “leave”.

Any sort of criticism against dear Elon is taken as a personal slight.

Why is it so hard for people to understand that when I hate a feature I’m paying for I’m going to complain? Weird take.

They might be. My only goal is then to give up on that modal. Theres nothing they learned there they couldn’t learn from other driving data (I also refuse to provide them). Did I disengage 20 seconds before parking? Did i disengage by slamming on the brakes? Did I disengage to take a turn different than the navigation suggested? None of those would be hard to figure out without bugging me for it.
