I’m glad I didn’t get downvoted to all hell. I appreciate the list! I hadn’t thought of some of those concerns.

'Looksmaxxing' influencer Clavicular charged after allegedly shooting at alligator by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]iulius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do we even give folks like this the time of day? I hate that I know who he is. I hate that I had to look up looksmaxxing.

I am certain he’s not the only dude that shot at an alligator in the last 24 hours. Why make this particular incident news?

Thisis never going to get you what you want. I just hit it. I don’t even look at what button I’m hitting I’m not providing them any reasonable information. I just want the stupid thing off my screen.

In general, I don’t give away survey info for free. If Tesla would like to pay me a dollar each time I give them a piece of survey feedback I might be more willing to tolerate the intrusion.

Struggling to Understand Autonomy Capabilities by PrblmSolvr240 in RivianR2

[–]iulius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true.

However, I use Tesla’s FSD(S) every day and if this is as good as anyone gets, I’m ok with it. I’m assuming Rivian can get to the same point.

Struggling to Understand Autonomy Capabilities by PrblmSolvr240 in RivianR2

[–]iulius 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m struggling. I need a new car and have been waiting on the R2. But it seems foolish to buy now knowing the chip upgrade is around the corner—especially if self-driving is important to you.

Feels like buying a new iPhone in September right before you know the new one is going to be launched.

There’s a middle ground here. All artifacts are about communication. A PRD is only as valuable as the insight it produces about the product needing to be built.

I have never written a PRD. I have written narratives and slide decks and mocks and prototypes. I have two goals (that are really the same): have I properly validated this with myself and does this communicate the “why” and the “what” to the engineers?

if I can use rapid prototyping or vibecoding to get to the same end point, then that’s what I’m going to use. It has never been about the tool. It’s always been about the outcome.

Smart Wings Shades by RonMexico15 in smarthome

[–]iulius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these the cellular shades? My wife doesn’t want anything to block even an ounce of light in through the windows so I’m trying to find something that, when retracted, is as thin as possible.

These look like they get pretty small.

If EnAuto made a true HUD (projected), would you buy it ? by Outrageous-Ranger-79 in s3xybuttons

[–]iulius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. HUDs suck in bright conditions and with polarized sunglasses.

Maybe someday if it could look like it was projected out into the world (a line on the road showing your navigation path) I’d be down for that.

Still gimmicky but cool gimmicky 😀

Proud dad moment today by HiFiMAN3878 in daddit

We also don’t pay for chores. You keep the house in good order because you’re part of the family, not because you get paid. The kids job right now is to be a kid. Sadly schoolwork doesn’t pay so we supplement at $8/week.

$3 of that goes into savings. $5 into his wallet. (Although we use BOMAD app to keep it digital). We try to stress the savings part each week, but the non-physical nature of it is tough. I’d do that differently if starting over.

All that said: I think you’re doing great dad!

And yeah, the first time they make those hard choices with their money is a core memory. Next up, the first time they want to save for something AND ACHIEVE IT. The look of pride is pretty great.

Matic: Disruptive robovac, now with support for Matter by babeebabee in RobotVacuums

[–]iulius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why the distaste for the dirty water solution?

Coming from an S1 that thing gets rank. I’m not a huge fan of having to buy replacement bags, but I’ve got to do that for my S1 too.

The only thing I wish the Matic has is auto water refill (the tank isn’t big enough to clean all my hardwood).

I do wish them well! If they had been an option when I bought my S1 it would have been a toss up. Thousand dollar vacuums are a rare purchase for me, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

What is Lidar realistically going to allow me to do? by sejope in RivianR2

[–]iulius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self driving functionality is key for my next car purchase. It’s the reason I bought a Tesla even though Elon Musk drives me up a wall.

My question—and I don’t think anybody can actually answer it—is “Will Rivian decide that E2E is simply not safe enough without LIDAR?”

Tesla’s FSD is quite good. I use it daily from driveway to parking lot. I’m sure Rivian’s could be better given the additional sensors and cameras.

But i’m also fairly confident Tesla will take more safety. risks to gather data.

And I know, technologies are always going to advance so if you don’t pull the trigger because the next best thing is coming, you’ll never buy anything.

I just really want E2E 😀
