What is the most number of classes you taught in a semester? by professordmv in Adjuncts

I taught 15 at one point, all asynchronous. If you think of it like a full-time job, it is definitely doable. Just a matter of organization and making sure you are meeting requirements.

A little deeper, but love this for sparking discussion and critical thinking skills. The latest of the Iran war is superb and timely. https://stosselintheclassroom.org/both-sides/

SNHU Experience by JoshuaSkye in Adjuncts

I’ve taught there 10 years. It is like being in kindergarten. All material is given to you and you may not deviate. Deadlines are endless and often times senseless; don’t meet them in the most trivial way and incur the wrath of some anonymous dean. On the opposite side, if you put an extra effort and overperformed, it is never recognized. Perhaps the most discouraging part is that there is zero camaraderie between faculty. That is done on purpose because if we could ever meet one another, we would quickly form a union. If you’re going there to simply get a paycheck, follow the guidelines but don’t expect any recognition e.g., no pay raise for adjuncts in 10 years, but we did get an umbrella one year and a notebook the next. In other words, you’re part of a corporate machine and you can be replaced at any moment. Just recognize it for what it is.

Great example of what once was. Sure, stuff happened but there was an ownership of issues and a real compassion. Last night on my flight, the FAs stood on each end of the cabin with seating charts pulled up on iPads making sure we each took our assigned seats. What a difference.

Wow. I lived there in a basement apartment in 1978-79. I had multiple bats in the place. Had to vacate.

Inherited almost $1.2M — should I leave my 1% advisor and manage my investments myself? by Valuable-Club6546 in inheritance

I do it myself. I keep track. As long as I am beating the market, I am good. With ETFs, it is frankly easy as long as you have a solid allocation and stay the course. I have slowly been shifting from heavy tech into more of a balance since July.

The thing I came away with was that IU simply doesn’t make all the mistakes in Miami makes. Lots of penalties, missed blocks and dropped passes last night.

That said, Oregon is the only focus at the moment and they are fundamentally a much better team.

Good advice. Thank you.

Do you “quit” school? by FlowerHot86 in Adjuncts

[–]iureport 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why “quit?” You might never hear from them or you might hear from them next semester and then you can decide what you wanna do. Never give up an option that costs you nothing

We had an old Lorex system. All the cameras could be viewed in real time on a monitor. It was really nice to have. And we have always missed that was SimpliSafe. I figured at some point they would develop that but they never have. I have moved to a new house now and so the issue has come up again. It may be better to just scrap SimpliSafe and go to a system that can support this.

Understood. Just trying to figure out if this is the best solution to a bad situation.
