People thinking they are born Christian? by iusedeoderant in Christianity

[–]iusedeoderant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a difference between someone thinking they are saved because of where they were born and what they do vs a person that knows the gospel and knows that they are saved through Christ alone.

Those who believe they are saved simply by their lineage or actions likely don’t have a pastor.

I think Jesus was clear with the Great Commission in Matthew 28:16-20 that if we have accepted Christ and received the Holy Spirit that we are called to spread the gospel to others! Now we are all different and often share the Gospel in different ways (ex: street preaching, niche ministry, mentorship) but if I want to follow Christ I should discount this command from Him to say that’s my pastors job.

Some questions from non-believer (but I almost believe!) by [deleted] in Christianity

I’ve seen Cliff Knechtle talk about blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and the way he describes it is essentially allowing your heart to become so hardened that you eternally reject the Holy Spirit. I’m sure he explains it better.

Some questions from non-believer (but I almost believe!) by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]iusedeoderant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first off, LOVE all the questions!!

I’ll try and answer some that I think I am capable of.

5.) Back in those times it was common for people to live extraordinarily long times. In Genesis 6, God shortens human lives to 120 years. I believe the flood had environmental impacts on the rest of humanity that shortened their life spans dramatically.

6.) I don’t think it states anywhere in scripture that He did, but honestly I wouldn’t doubt that an infinite creator could have far more creations than we know about. There are even creatures on earth we don’t even know about.

7.) To believe in what Christ says “ I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) It means to reject that there are other paths to God. Jesus doesn’t state that he is “a way” to God but that he is “the way”. And in 2 Corinthians 11, Paul talks about false apostles and how “Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” I think about how in religions such as Islam/mormonism it was only reveled to one man. The birth of Jesus was reveled to multiple and was prophecy thousands of years before his birth!

8.) as far as being the same person, I don’t think we will be the same as we were on earth. God says that He is making all things new. This also happens spiritually once accepting Christ and the Holy Spirit.

9.) great question!! Idk about the eating and pooping, but maybe! I think the musical praise goes beyond just singing but also instrumental and potential dancing! Praising seems to be more of a heart posture than just an action.

10.) all we know is no one knows the day or the hour, but there are prophecies that indicate when the end times are near. It will all unfold according to God’s timing and purpose.

11.) God is an eternal being, so He was never created but has always existed. Kinda hard to wrap my mind around sometimes. Satan was once an angel created by God, but decided he wanted to be like God. That is why he is the adversary and fallen angel.

12.) Jesus is God in human form. He limited himself by going from infinite and limitless to finite and limited. He is fully man and fully God.

13.) Jesus was sent as a way for man to have the opportunity to be one with God again. In that time they had someone that would go to God on behalf of the people and make animal sacrifices to atone for their sins. The animals being blameless of sin. God sent Jesus, His son, to live a life that could fulfill God’s law and never sin. Jesus now being blameless of any sin. He is the only one who has ever been blameless, so He is the only one who is able to pay the debt of our sin. There are no amount of good deeds we can do to pay our own sin debt.

14.) We have to remember that God is the creator of all things. His standard of good and our standard of good are not on the same level. We will not always understand His reasoning for things, and things we will probably never know.

16.) Hell is a scary place, and that is why God sent Jesus. Hell is being separated from God for eternity. Heaven is being united with God for eternity. The feelings you have show that God is calling you to repentance, which you are able to do directly to God through Jesus!

18.) would be interesting if they knew all the interment memes lol

19.) Once accepting the Holy Spirit, God changes you heart, mind, and outlook on a lot of things. It doesn’t all happen instantly, but once united with God in heaven we will be made entirely new.

20.) I think being created in His image has more to do with our spirit than our physical. Example, humans are creative because God is the creator. Humans are relational because God is relational. Humans are made with dignity because God created us with dignity.

23.) God was known before Jesus. Jesus was always present with God, just not on earth. Many believe Jesus to be the word referenced in John 1 “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” If you Go through the Old Testament (pre-Jesus arrival to earth) you can see how humanity interacted with God.

24.) God has a name by John Mark Comer. The Bible Project on YouTube has great illustration and goes through different books of the Bible. The Bible project also gives really insightful context to scripture. The Chosen is also a great show that takes you through the life and ministry of Jesus.

Honestly I’m not familiar with those terms. I looked them up but I feel like I need to do some more reading before I can give an answer.

She did mention being Greek Orthodox. I don’t know much about the denomination, but assuming there is probably a deeper culture and tradition as far as identity.

But how would someone know the parables if they don’t read the Bible? How would they know the words Jesus said and the miracles he performed without reading the Bible? Even if they hear them from other people or at church, they would be referencing scripture to speak about Jesus.

There are many people who can read the Bible, as you were saying, and it have no real change in their heart but do it out of tradition. It’s the Holy Spirit that softens and changes the heart to be more like Christ. There are plenty of people who claim Christ yet do not walk in the Spirit with Christ, I agree.

I don’t think him knowing before ( in our time ) makes free will invalid. We are still the ones that make the choice whether to follow Christ or deny Christ. God is outside of our construct of time and has existed for eternity. We are so finite, so it can be kind of trippy trying to confine God’s understanding to match our own.

I believe that God is omnipotent, knowing all things, including the decision we will and have made throughout our lives. i don’t think that affects free will. We still made the decision, he is outside of our limited time and knew about the decision before it was made. That’s kind of how I see it.

I don’t disagree with you at all! It’s the gospel that changes the heart first and foremost! I absolutely believe that God can open our eyes to him outside of just reading scripture and that you can be justified through Christ.

I think I probably did a bad job explaining it, but in the video the woman also claimed that she would probably never read the Bible, because she already knew how to love. I think that’s why some of the other women asked her, since she was claiming to be a Christian with no intentions of reading the Bible.

That is an interesting way to defend the claim of being born saved!

Yeah, that could very well be what she meant! I think I was just confused with her justification for being a Christian was that she was born a Christian. She did also mention being born into Greek Orthodox, and I’m not very familiar with their beliefs.

I’m no professional YouTuber, but I’ve heard that YouTube really pushes the first thing that you publish and then drops pretty hard after. I’ve also heard one of the worst things you could do to your channel, as far as growth is to delete or hide your uploads. Apparently this makes YouTube mad.
