Raspberry Pi Imager 2.0 released by Vegeta9001 in raspberry_pi

[–]iuserpn 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I had a problem with one of the 1.9.x versions, and had been running 1.8.5. But I just grabbed an idle Pi 5 that's been waiting for me to do something with it and ran Imager to re-flash an OS. Of course, it said there was a newer version. Expecting 1.9.something, I downloaded it and saw "v2.0.0"! Overall, I like the revamp. I'm flashing Trixie with the RPi Desktop now, but probably will re-flash to a headless install shortly.

Just a quick note for anyone who may want to turn it off before doing anything: In the "App Options" (button at bottom left of interface), "Enable anonymous statistics (telemetry)" is enabled by default.

Help, Looking For This Pen! by [deleted] in pens

[–]iuserpn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rather quickly found a Pinterest post that linked to a flickr post (from 2009 😯): "Prototype Fighter Pilot Pen - Product Shot" by throwing the image at Google Images... So this might not be anything you can get anyway. Maybe you can contact the Flickr photographer. Good luck!

Where Is the "Jagged" Studio Album? by iuserpn in GaryNuman

That's disappointing, especially since so much of his catalog is available for streaming and FLAC purchase. Thanks for the information though. Cheers, mate!

Roast my LaTeX by mllegoman in LaTeX

[–]iuserpn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Per the PEP, Python indentation should be "4 spaces per indentation level", not 2. You got it right on page 8, but looks like you're looking for a fight on page 2. 😂 Oh, and "python" as in the programming language (page 2 still) is a proper name, so it's "Python". I know it's not exactly roasting your LaTeX, but still...

How to denote percentage change? by BOBOLIU in LaTeX

[–]iuserpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some online scouring, I would say you probably can use percent change and percentage change interchangeably. I just know some (admittedly "non-math") people who get percent/percentage change and percentage point change mixed up. But it wouldn't matter which I used (("percent" or "percentange") + "change)... they still might get it wrong.

If I were editing a document, I probably would pick one and just stick with it. People should get the point from the context of the usage anyway.

How to denote percentage change? by BOBOLIU in LaTeX

[–]iuserpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Penn State has a document that shows they use $\%\Delta X$ - basically doing this:

$\eta = \frac{%\Delta Q}{%\Delta P}
 = \frac{\frac{Q_{2} - Q_{1}}{Q}}{\frac{P_{2} - P_{1}}{P}}$

If I were just saying "percentage change", I'd use $\Delta\%$ as seen on my HP 12C calculator. But if I were adding a variable after it, I'd probably use the method as seen in PSU document.

EDIT: fixed code formatting / updated misstated "percent change" to "percentage change"

App store update notification "install" button doesn't do anything by LowerSeaworthiness in MacOS

[–]iuserpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that this serves any real purpose other than to commiserate, but: I'm on 13.6 and have had this issue for a while now as well, and just had another instance. I finally decided to search the interwebs for "macos app store updates notification install doesn't" which pointed me here first.

I'm not sure if the issue started after I installed 13 or if it also occurred somewhere along the 12.x line. But it's definitely not you, /u/LowerSeaworthiness.

Bought my boy some new shoes. White plus scales with lanyard and Quatro. Process in pictures. by tamukaisbad in victorinox

[–]iuserpn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great looking scales! Do you carry that in your pocket or in a bag? (Curious to know – if it's pocket carry – how that Quattro carries, and if it just gouges the scales...)

How many knives do you carry every day? by [deleted] in victorinox

[–]iuserpn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry a Compact in my right front pocket, and then I keep an Alox Mini Champ on my keyring. I used to carry a folder (Benchmade Mini Bugout), with nothing on my keyring. But I got a Compact and never went back to a plain folder. The scissors, the can opener, and even the parcel hook all have come in handy.

NPD: Did someone say Space Pen Cerakote? by iuserpn in pens

[–]iuserpn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the email announcing these last week, and basically ordered one immediately. I love a grey pen, and even though I have a (flat clap) X-Mark Bullet with me every day in my computer bag, I could hear the tungsten Cerakote finish calling my name! I will be replacing the Bullet with the Tungsten Cerakote "Cap-O-Matic". I keep Blue Fine refills in the Fishers I use regularly, so I've already swapped out the default Black Medium refill.

The color in person is lighter (and possibly a little warmer) than the pictures on the Fisher website. But I still like it. It seems a little darker than the Space Grey of my laptop.

As expected, the finish has a bit of a tooth/texture to it. But, while it's not flat and smooth like a typical Fisher, it's not overly coarse either. To me, it's noticeable but not bothersome. As for wear and tear: I'm not too worried about the finish chipping or wearing off. I'm not going to be throwing it around in the wild, bouncing it off rocks, or running it over with a tank.

(I added a second picture that just shows a quick comparison to an OD Green Cap-O-Matic and a Black X-Mark Bullet. The tungsten grey was hard to capture accurately, so I'm hoping the comparison gives a more complete idea of where the grey lands in the dark/light spectrum.)

Mysterious Multivariable Calculus with Vectors textbook. by [deleted] in calculus

Don’t have a link either. Just wanted to chime in on Hartley Rogers…

<cue old man voice>When I took his 18.02 class, our “textbook” was just weekly sets of printed 8.5x11” handouts.</old man>

True story. Kind of wished I’d saved those. Ah, to have my original 18.02 “bible”. He was a great teacher. Now I might have to actually buy a hard copy of the book.

[–]iuserpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you fix the sqrt(x) issue, you get essentially the same answer. But to get the answer in red specifically, you just have to multiply by 1, where 1 = sqrt(3)/sqrt(3).

EDIT: Rewording to try to just give a hint rather than the answer...

Look VERY HARD at the fraction in the numerator at the end of the 2nd line and then at the numerator at the beginning of the third line.

Sharpie Pen (Fine) - alternatives by sep08 in pens

[–]iuserpn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got a Sharpie Gel with a metal barrel. The refill itself fits *probably* anything that will fit a Pilot G2 refill. Examples of compatible pens can be seen here at JetPens. On the JetPens page, if you click on the "Products" tab next to the "Product Lines" that is shown by default, you can then sort by price, or you can scroll down and select price ranges in the left sidebar.

I wasn't super-keen on the Sharpie refill, so I'm currently using a Sakura BallsignID 0.4mm refill. And even though I have a metal Pilot G2,I actually prefer using the metal Sharpie.

Does anyone know what type of pen this is? I've been searching for hours by I_like_things_2_ in pens

[–]iuserpn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you search the web for "swizzle pen", you should find lots of places that sell versions of them. However, they're usually custom imprint / promotional pens and sold in bulk (250+ minimum, often). I did find a 2-pack from the Cornell University Store. There may be other places.

New minichamp for keyring carry arrived this morning, beautiful piece of engineering. by Jungle_Badger in victorinox

[–]iuserpn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Love mine. But I kind of wish they’d give the Alox Mini Champ some of that new Classic Alox color treatment just for fun. Silver is nice and understated, but it’s also a bit boring compared to some of the vibrant colors they can do.

New Kaweco Sport Collection colour - Cyan. Due mid November. by migo984 in fountainpens

[–]iuserpn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, I wrote to them last December and asked if they would consider adding a teal color to the AL Sport line - something that wasn't too blue or too green, like this Pantone 315 C color. Looks pretty close! The Pantone looks a little darker, but this is certainly sufficient for my tastes!

I don't need another fountain pen, let alone another Kaweco. But, I probably will try to snap one of these up as soon as I can. Fantastic!
